September 18, 2024 | KB: 1014267
Laserfiche 11

Summary

Laserfiche 11 introduces several new features to make it easier for users to find, work with, and share documents, as well as the introduction of direct share for self-hosted systems, and the release of Audit Trail 11. This release also includes numerous bug fixes and performance improvements. For more information, see 1014268: List of Changes for Laserfiche 11.

Installation Updates

The installation for the Laserfiche administration console has been moved from the Laserfiche Windows client install package to the Laserfiche Server install package. In addition, the Laserfiche Full-Text Indexing and Search Service now has its own installation package, and can also be installed from the Laserfiche Server installation package and the Audit Trail installation package.

Upgrading from Laserfiche 8, 9, or 10

After installing Laserfiche Server 11, the Server will automatically update the version 8, 9, or 10 database. This update will happen the first time the Laserfiche Server attempts to load a repository. The update process happens behind the scenes, and does not require any user input. It is performed in-place, and does not create a new database. When the update is complete, your repository will be compatible with the Laserfiche 11 Server.

Note: With large databases, the automatic schema update may take some time. Be aware that your Laserfiche repository will be inaccessible during this process even though the Laserfiche Server service is running. Check the Windows Event Log to see when the process is complete.

Important: This update occurs in-place and does not create a new database. Therefore, you should ensure that you have a working backup before installing the Laserfiche Server 11 or registering your repository to it.

The search catalog will also automatically be updated when the repository is first connected. Once the catalog has been updated, the repository will automatically begin a reindex operation. This operation may be lengthy, especially in large repositories. Full-text and other indexed searches will not return complete results until the indexing is complete.

Laserfiche Server Requirements

Minimum Laserfiche Server Requirements

  • Processor Type (CPU): Intel or AMD x64 Processor at 1.8 GHz; 64-bit Windows operating system
  • Memory: 2 GB RAM
  • Operating system: Windows 10, Windows Server 2016, Windows Server 2019, Windows 11, Windows Server 2022
  • Note: The Laserfiche Server is only supported on x64 versions of your Windows operating system. In addition, production implementations of the Laserfiche Server should be installed on Windows Server operating systems; non-server operating systems are supported for testing and demonstration purposes.

  • Database engine: Microsoft SQL Server 2014 Service Pack 3, Microsoft SQL Server 2016 Service Pack 2, Microsoft SQL Server 2017, Microsoft SQL Server 2019, Microsoft SQL Server 2022
  • Note: Express editions of the above Microsoft SQL Server versions are supported, but are only suitable for repositories of fewer than one million pages and five or fewer simultaneously-connected users. Larger or more frequently-accessed repositories will see significant performance issues when using Microsoft SQL Server Express.

Recommended Laserfiche Server Requirements

  • Processor Type (CPU): Intel or AMD x64 Processor at 2.0 GHz or faster; 64-bit Windows operating system
  • Operating system: Windows Server 2016 or later, x64 editions only
  • Database engine: Microsoft SQL Server 2014 Service Pack 3 or later
  • Note: If the Laserfiche Server and Laserfiche Full-Text Indexing and Search Service will be installed on the same computer, a quad core CPU and 8 GB of RAM are recommended.

Laserfiche Full-Text Indexing and Search Service Requirements

The following recommended specifications assume that Laserfiche Full-Text Indexing and Search Service has been installed on a dedicated machine. If it is installed on the same computer as the Laserfiche Server, see the applicable notes under Laserfiche Server recommended specifications, above.

  • CPU: Intel or AMD x64 Processor at 2.0 GHz or faster; 64-bit Windows operating system
  • Memory: 6 GB RAM
  • Operating system: Windows Server 2016 or later

    • Internet Information Services (IIS): IIS 8 or later.
    • .NET 4.8 is required. The ASP.NET component corresponding to your .NET version should also be installed in IIS.
    • Ensure the Windows Authentication feature in IIS is enabled.

Note: Server operating systems are preferred.

Recommended Web Server Requirements

  • CPU: 2.8 GHz or faster processor
  • Memory: 8 GB RAM
  • Operating system: Windows Server 2016 or later, x64 only
    • Internet Information Services (IIS): IIS 8 or later.
    • .NET 4.8 is required. The ASP.NET component corresponding to your .NET version should also be installed in IIS.
    • Ensure the Windows Authentication feature in IIS is enabled.

Note: Hardware requirements may fluctuate based on the number of users logged in to the server. If you expect to have many simultaneous connections to your Laserfiche web server, we encourage you to configure it with a faster CPU and/or add more RAM.

Note: Serving high-resolution images can require large amounts of system resources. If your repository contains high-resolution images, make sure that the total paging file size on the Laserfiche web server is at least twice the amount of physical memory (RAM).

Web Client Workstations

  • The web client is supported on Chrome, Microsoft Edge (Chromium), Firefox, and Safari for iOS.

Laserfiche Office Integration Requirements

  • CPU: Pentium 4, Opteron, Athlon 64, or more recent processor (at least 1.8 GHz)

Laserfiche Mobile Server 11 can be upgraded from the Laserfiche Mobile Add-on for Web Access versions 8.3.2-9.1.1, Laserfiche Mobile Server 9.2.0-10, the Laserfiche App Server 10.1-10.2, the Laserfiche Mobile Server 10.2.1, and Laserfiche Mobile Server 10.4.x.

Known Issues

  • You may receive a "Unknown internal error. [9036]" error message when attaching a large volume. In addition, the Windows Event Viewer may also log a "XmlReaderForFile failed" error message. This error can occur when the toc.xml file is greater than 2 GB. (122056)
  • Laserfiche Snapshot is not supported in virtual machines running on Apple silicon. Other Laserfiche applications designed for Windows have not been validated when running on systems using CPU emulation and may exhibit unexpected behavior in such environments.
  • In some cases, you may need to run the Office Plugin installer twice to install web tools for the Laserfiche web client. (196921)
  • When exporting or printing a PDF in the web client, the exported or printed PDF may not contain some watermarks or annotations. This is due to an issue with Microsoft's September 2017 .NET Security and Quality Rollup. See the Microsoft support site for a resolution to this issue. (46381)
  • In the Windows client, dropdown menus in the toolbar may display the incorrect language after switching languages. (86949)
  • In some cases, you may need to run the Laserfiche Windows client installation twice to correctly install the client and its components. This issue occurs if scanning has already been installed via the Laserfiche client. (198740)
  • When passing a search query in a web client URL, backslashes may be converted to forward slashes. You can avoid this issue by encoding the backslash characters by replacing them with %5C in the string. (123399)
  • When printing documents with both landscape- and portrait-oriented pages, all pages will be printed using the page orientation of the first page. (124816)
