Summary
Laserfiche 11 introduces several new features to make it easier for users to find, work with, and share documents, as well as the introduction of direct share for self-hosted systems, and the release of Audit Trail 11. This release also includes numerous bug fixes and performance improvements. For more information, see 1014268: List of Changes for Laserfiche 11.
Installation Updates
The installation for the Laserfiche administration console has been moved from the Laserfiche Windows client install package to the Laserfiche Server install package. In addition, the Laserfiche Full-Text Indexing and Search Service now has its own installation package, and can also be installed from the Laserfiche Server installation package and the Audit Trail installation package.
Upgrading from Laserfiche 8, 9, or 10
After installing Laserfiche Server 11, the Server will automatically update the version 8, 9, or 10 database. This update will happen the first time the Laserfiche Server attempts to load a repository. The update process happens behind the scenes, and does not require any user input. It is performed in-place, and does not create a new database. When the update is complete, your repository will be compatible with the Laserfiche 11 Server.
Note: With large databases, the automatic schema update may take some time. Be aware that your Laserfiche repository will be inaccessible during this process even though the Laserfiche Server service is running. Check the Windows Event Log to see when the process is complete.
Important: This update occurs in-place and does not create a new database. Therefore, you should ensure that you have a working backup before installing the Laserfiche Server 11 or registering your repository to it.
The search catalog will also automatically be updated when the repository is first connected. Once the catalog has been updated, the repository will automatically begin a reindex operation. This operation may be lengthy, especially in large repositories. Full-text and other indexed searches will not return complete results until the indexing is complete.
Laserfiche Server Requirements
Minimum Laserfiche Server Requirements
Note: The Laserfiche Server is only supported on x64 versions of your Windows operating system. In addition, production implementations of the Laserfiche Server should be installed on Windows Server operating systems; non-server operating systems are supported for testing and demonstration purposes.
Note: Express editions of the above Microsoft SQL Server versions are supported, but are only suitable for repositories of fewer than one million pages and five or fewer simultaneously-connected users. Larger or more frequently-accessed repositories will see significant performance issues when using Microsoft SQL Server Express.
Recommended Laserfiche Server Requirements
Note: If the Laserfiche Server and Laserfiche Full-Text Indexing and Search Service will be installed on the same computer, a quad core CPU and 8 GB of RAM are recommended.
Laserfiche Full-Text Indexing and Search Service Requirements
The following recommended specifications assume that Laserfiche Full-Text Indexing and Search Service has been installed on a dedicated machine. If it is installed on the same computer as the Laserfiche Server, see the applicable notes under Laserfiche Server recommended specifications, above.
Laserfiche Web Client Requirements
Minimum Web Server Requirements
Note: Server operating systems are preferred.
Recommended Web Server Requirements
Note: Hardware requirements may fluctuate based on the number of users logged in to the server. If you expect to have many simultaneous connections to your Laserfiche web server, we encourage you to configure it with a faster CPU and/or add more RAM.
Note: Serving high-resolution images can require large amounts of system resources. If your repository contains high-resolution images, make sure that the total paging file size on the Laserfiche web server is at least twice the amount of physical memory (RAM).
Web Client Workstations
Laserfiche Office Integration Requirements
To edit documents within the browser using the web client, you will need to install and configure the Laserfiche Integration with Microsoft Office 365. See Installing and Configuring the Laserfiche Integration with Microsoft Office 365 for more information.
