Laserfiche Cloud

Summary

This article documents new features and changes in Laserfiche Cloud 2020.4, released on October 8, 2020.

Process Automation

Workflow activities

Create more powerful workflows with new activities. The Search Repository activity lets you search for files based on metadata field or location, and then use those files in the workflow. The Assign Rights activity lets you automatically apply access rights to entries in your repository.

Business processes

More efficiently design form-based processes using a new drag-and-drop layout form designer. This provides a near-wysiwyg interface for forms creation and editing. A new Rules service task lets you run pre-defined rules such as data queries, decision tables, formulas, and more. You can also check and filter process instances across multiple processes at once through the process monitor view.

Survey reporting

You can now more conveniently analyze survey data by exporting survey reports as a single PDF.

Ellucian Banner integration through Ethos

Laserfiche business processes now support using lookup rules to auto-populate form fields with information from Ellucian Banner and other applications. Additionally, new actions, such as changing the major and minor disciplines, have been added to the Run Application Action activity in workflows for Ellucian connections.

Capture

The following issues have been fixed:

  • After running a test that encounters an error, the dialog box will now progress to 100% and let the user know an error occurred. (270321)
  • Zones no longer shift when attempting to adjust the zone's size. (263009)
  • Creating a zone, zooming in, and resizing the zone no longer causes the zone position to unexpectedly change. (253452)
  • Smart capture profile table headers are now styled correctly in Firefox. (259899)
  • Sample and test images are no longer draggable in the Capture Profile Designer. Only entire pages can be dragged and dropped when configuring a sample or test document. (264540)
  • When zoomed out, the Zone dialog box now adjusts its location to avoid covering the selected zone. (230520)
  • Using hotkeys to save zone changes, then pressing "Esc" no longer deletes the zone. (243900)
  • When creating a test document, the progress dialog is no longer missing text. (256012)
  • When editing a newly created test document, users will now be able to see the test document's thumbnail. (256253)

Documents

The web client now allows you to print multiple documents in a batch. You can perform batch prints on any combination of imaged documents, Word files, and PDFs. When you select multiple documents and print them, the web client will generate a PDF that you can then print.

The web client also includes a new grid view, allowing you to view thumbnail images of documents in the folder browser. This view allows you to quickly skim for documents in a folder or set of search results, which is particularly useful when viewing folders with many photos or other images. You can also now view the remaining major file types directly in the preview pane and document viewer.

In addition, the following issues have been resolved:

  • Resolved an issue in that could cause some PDFs to display incorrectly when viewed in the document viewer. (257400, 255928, 259359, 250829, 117533 )
  • In some cases, deleting thousands of documents could fail due to a timeout. This issue has been resolved. (252813)
  • Resolved an issue in which an optional attachment on a document in a DocuSign envelope could cause the import to fail. (51267)
  • Dynamic fields with a configured sort order now sort correctly. (250395)
  • Resolved an issue in which an extra blank page was printed when printing a single page. (255926)
  • When creating a document from pages of an existing document with a dynamic field, the new document dialog box would not allow you modify the dynamic field values. This issue has been resolved. (242393)
  • The web client now correctly follows the Preserve PDF annotations on Laserfiche pages user option. (260352)
  • Time information now displays correctly for all time zones. (242833)
  • Resolved a security issue. (263497)
  • Some briefcases could fail to upload and result in a "There was an error connecting to your repository. Return to the landing page. Error encountered when receiving an HTTP response" error. This issue has been resolved. (273526)
  • Importing PDFs with very thin or narrow annotations could fail with the error message "There was an error importing FileName: Specified argument was out of the range of valid values. Parameter name: value." This issue has been resolved. (273526)
  • When installing the Office integration, you may encounter a "Not loaded. A runtime error occurred during the loading of the COM Add-in." error. This issue occurs when Visual C++ 2019 or later is not installed on the machine on which you are installing Office integration. Visual C++ 2019 or later is now a prerequisite for Office integration. (212758)

Known issues:

  • When moving through a list of documents in a folder using the keyboard with the Preview pane open, some Office 365 documents will cause focus to move from the document list to the preview pane. (236497)
  • When printing a PDF with pages of multiple orientations and sizes, or batch printing multiple documents with different orientations and sizes, some pages may not display correctly. If you are printing a single PDF, you can download the PDF and print it from its native application. When batch printing, group pages with the same size and orientation into the same batch print. (245771, 245733)
  • When viewing your repository using version 84 of the Chrome browser, some toolbar icons may not display. This issue can be resolved by updating Chrome to version 85. (260681)

Laserfiche API Preview

The Laserfiche API Preview includes an alpha set of RESTful Web APIs designed to more easily access your Laserfiche Cloud repository from a web application. The initial release will be available as a preview for you to check out the APIs and share feedback.
