Cause

Licensing site creation takes a long time and displays an Object reference not set to an instance of an object. error on the New Licensing Site page. This will occur in systems where Directory Server has a slow connection to the domain controllers of any trusted domain, causing Directory Server to become unresponsive during this extended site creation period.

Resolution

Use the following workaround to successfully create a licensing site:

1. In Directory Server, click the Create Site button.
2. Ignore the Object reference not set to an instance of an object. error that appears.
3. Wait for an event to be recorded in the Laserfiche-Directory Service-Server Operational trace logs that looks like Mounted database [myExampleSite]. This may take several minutes depending on your network and domain setup.
4. Return to your browser and refresh the page.
5. You may now use the new licensing site.
