When migrating from Laserfiche Server user management to Laserfiche Directory Server user management, the Account Migration Utility can be used to simplify the process. The Account Migration Utility tool does not migrate column profiles, saved searches, quick searches, import profiles, lock-down settings, or any other group settings defined in the Everyone group's attributes list.
The Group SIDs assigned in Laserfiche Directory Server after migration are different than the Group SIDs assigned in Laserfiche Server before migration. For this reason, any group settings using attributes within the Everyone group will have outdated Group SIDs after a migration takes place. The Account Migration utility does not update these settings.
The resolution is to manually change the SIDs in the Everyone group's attributes. There are two consoles that can be used to change the SID values. Depending on your preference, steps for both are listed below:
Web Client Management Console
- Pre-Migration:
- Navigate to the Web Client web page and sign-in.
- Click the drop-down menu for your user profile and click Management.
- Click Users.
- Click the Groups tab.
- Next to the search box, de-select all options by clicking each option, so that only Repository remains highlighted in blue.
- Check the checkbox to the left of the Name column. This will check all the Repository Groups in the table.
- Click the download icon located at the top, right-hand side of the table. This will download a .xml extension file. It is recommended to name this file as Pre-Migration Groups List.
- Migration:
- Navigate to the Account Migration Utility.
- Run the Account Migration Utility and finish the migration process from Laserfiche Server to Laserfiche Directory Server.
Note: Make a note of any groups that were renamed to resolve migration conflicts.
- Post-Migration:
- Navigate to the Web Client web page and sign-in.
- Click the drop-down menu for your user profile and click Management.
- Click Users.
- Click the Groups tab.
- Next to the search box, de-select all options by clicking each option, so that only Laserfiche remains highlighted in blue.
- Check the checkbox to the left of the Name column. This will check all the Laserfiche Groups in the table.
- Click the download icon located at the top, right-hand side of the table. This will download a .xml extension file. It is recommended to name this file as Post-Migration Groups List.
- Replacing the SIDs in the Everyone Group Attributes file:
- Navigate to the Web Client web page and sign-in.
- Click the drop-down menu for your user profile and click Management.
- Click Everyone.
- Click the Attributes tab.
- Check the checkbox to the left of the Name column. This will check all the attributes in the table.
- Click the download icon located at the top, right-hand side of the table. This will download a .xml extension file. It is recommended to name this file as Everyone Group Attributes.
- Open the Pre-Migration Groups List.xml, Everyone Group Attributes.xml, and Post-Migration Groups List.xml files in a text editor.
- For each group attribute in the Everyone Group Attributes.xml file, identify the group name and Group SID. Ensure this group name and SID agrees with the values for the group in Pre-Migration Groups List.xml.
- Find the corresponding migrated group in Post-Migration Groups List.xml. Take the post-migration SID values from this file and use it to overwrite the group's pre-migration SID values in Everyone Group Attributes.xml.
- Repeat this process until all of the pre-migration SIDs in Everyone Group Attributes.xml have been replaced with the post-migration SIDs.
- Save the Everyone Group Attributes.xml file.
- Import the Everyone Group Attributes file:
- Navigate to the Web Client web page and sign-in.
- Click the drop-down menu for your user profile and click Management.
- Click Everyone.
- Click the Attributes tab.
- Click the import icon located at the top, right-hand side of the table.
- In the Import XML File dialog box, browse to the Everyone Group Attributes.xml file that contains the new Group SID values. For Import Options, select the option to Replace with the imported values. Click OK.
Laserfiche Administration Console
- Pre-Migration:
- In the Laserfiche Administration Console, navigate to your repository.
- Click Users and Groups.
- Click Repository Groups.
- Right-click the white space and a context menu will appear. In this context menu, highlight All Tasks. In the subsequent context menu, click Export as XML.
- This will generate a .xml extension file with your repository groups. It is recommended to name this file as Pre-Migration Groups List.
- Migration:
- Navigate to the Account Migration Utility.
- Run the Account Migration Utility and finish the migration process from Laserfiche Server to Laserfiche Directory Server.
Note: Make a note of any groups that were renamed to resolve migration conflicts.
- Post-Migration:
- In the Laserfiche Administration Console, navigate to your repository.
- Click Users and Groups.
- Click Laserfiche Directory Groups.
- Right-click the white space and a context menu will appear. In this context menu, highlight All Tasks. In the subsequent context menu, click Export as XML.
- This will generate a .xml extension file with your Laserfiche Directory Groups. It is recommended to name this file as Post-Migration Groups List.
- Replacing the SIDs in the Everyone Group Attributes file:
- In the Laserfiche Administration Console, navigate to your repository.
- Click Users and Groups.
- Double-click Everyone. This will open the Everyone Properties dialog box. You can also right-click Everyone and in the context menu, click Properties.
- Click the Attributes tab.
- In the table, select all attributes. You can do this by holding down the Shift key and clicking the first attribute, followed by the last attribute to select all attributes.
- Click the Export button.
- This will generate a .xml extension file with your Everyone Groups Selected Attributes. It is recommended to name this file as Everyone Group Attributes.
- Open the Pre-Migration Groups List.xml, Everyone Group Attributes.xml, and Post-Migration Groups List.xml files in a text editor.
- For each group attribute in the Everyone Group Attributes.xml file, identify the group name and Group SID. Ensure this group name and SID agrees with the values for the group in Pre-Migration Groups List.xml.
- Find the corresponding migrated group in Post-Migration Groups List.xml. Take the post-migration SID values from this file and use it to overwrite the group's pre-migration SID values in Everyone Group Attributes.xml.
- Repeat this process until all of the pre-migration SIDs in Everyone Group Attributes.xml have been replaced with the post-migration SIDs.
- Save the Everyone Group Attributes.xml file.
- Import the Everyone Group Attributes file:
- Navigate to the Laserfiche Administration Console.
- Click Users and Groups.
- Double-click Everyone. This will open the Everyone Properties dialog box. You can also right-click Everyone and in the context menu, click Properties.
- Click the Attributes tab.
- Click the import button.
- In the Select an Attribute File dialog box, browse to the Everyone Group Attributes.xml file that contains the new Group SID values. For Conflict Resolution, select the option to Replace with the imported values. Click Apply.
