Release Notes for Laserfiche 10.4.1

April 14, 2020 | KB: 1014049
Laserfiche 10.4.1

Summary

Laserfiche 10.4.1 introduces several new features to make it easier to work with documents in your repository, as well as numerous fixes.

Installation Information

The installation process works best when run from local media. Certain aspects of the installation wizard may not function correctly when run directly from a network drive or file share. For example, the installation may not automatically resume following a reboot after installing the setup prerequisites; you must manually restart the installation. Or you may be unable to assign a domain account during the service configuration step of the installation.

Upgrading from Laserfiche 8, 9 and previous versions of Laserfiche 10

After installing Laserfiche Server 10.4.1, the Server will automatically update the database. This update process will happen the first time the Laserfiche Server attempts to load a repository. The update process happens behind the scenes, and does not require any user input. It is performed in-place, and does not create a new database. When the update is complete, your repository will be compatible with the Laserfiche 10.4 Server.

Note: With large databases, the automatic schema update may take some time. Be aware that your Laserfiche repository will be inaccessible during this process even though the Laserfiche Server service is running. Check the Windows Event Log to see when the process is complete.

Important: This update occurs in-place and does not create a new database. Therefore, you should ensure that you have a working backup before installing the Laserfiche Server or registering your repository to it.

The search catalog will also automatically be updated when the repository is first connected. Once the catalog has been updated, the repository will automatically begin a reindex operation. This operation may be lengthy, especially in large repositories. Full-text and other indexed searches will not return complete results until the indexing is complete.

Known Issues

  • Users cannot perform searches for documents with hold that do not have a due date. (94048)
  • Editing documents in the browser using the Office Online integration is disabled for users on Firefox version 66 and higher. This is due to a known issue in Firefox. See Mozilla bug 1536453. (188694)
  • In some cases, viewing a PowerPoint file that contains embedded video using the Microsoft Office Online integration can cause the web client to become unresponsive. (153853)
  • In Laserfiche Scanning, after scanning a document with a template that has dynamic fields, all fields stay selected. You must click in each field to deselect them. (172465)
  • In Laserfiche Scanning, the Backspace key does not remove characters in a dynamic field. To remove characters, select the character and click Delete. (172441)
  • Read-only fields are editable in Laserfiche Scanning, but the changes are not saved when storing the documents to Laserfiche. (30038)

  • Pressing CTRL+SHIFT to create a copy of a document when dragging and dropping it in the web client does not function in Chrome browsers. (61596)
  • In some cases, when a search has been run in the web client using Internet Explorer 11, the search type option will not open when re-opening the Advanced Search dialog box. (79394)
  • Locations may not display when using Internet Explorer to access the web client from the same computer on which the web client was installed. (86438)
  • When a document contains both portrait- and landscape-oriented image pages, it will be printed using the orientation of the first page when printing from the web client. (124816)
  • Some backslash (\) characters are replaced with forward slash (/) characters by the browser when search queries are generated as URLs. This issue can be avoided by encoding the backslash using %5c. (123399)
  • In some cases, when accessing the web client configuration page using Internet Explorer, the edit and delete icons will not display for some items. (146099)
  • Very large pages in Microsoft Office documents, such as an Excel spreadsheet, can cause the browser to become unresponsive. (144539)

  • The compression quality level for PDFs is ignored when exporting imaged document as PDFs using the Windows client. (32139)
  • When using document co-authoring to edit a Microsoft Word document in the web client, the co-authoring lock may not be released when closing the document. The document can still be edited using the web client, but cannot be edited using other client applications until the lock times out after 30 minutes. (53665)
  • When using document co-authoring to edit a Microsoft Office document, the co-authoring lock may not be released when you sign out if the tab containing the document is left open. The document can still be edited using the web client, but cannot be edited using other client applications until the lock times out after 30 minutes. (49554)
  • When assigning a template, default values cannot be deleted from individual fields. They can be modified, or deleted once the document has been saved. (30056)
  • In some cases, when printing a document from Web Access, watermarks and most annotations will not be included. This issue does not affect highlights, redactions, or stamps. (46381)
  • When exporting a folder as a ZIP file, the export may fail if the ZIP contains a folder with a very long path. (51258)
  • Printing very large imaged documents can cause the web client to freeze. Exporting the document first and then printing resolves this issue. (27419)
  • When the web client is embedded in an iframe, if the website containing the iframe and the web client are not hosted on the same machine, the web client plugin will not be correctly detected and functionality that requires the plugin will silently fail. Hosting the web page containing the iframe and the web client on the same computer resolves this issue. (153451, 29023)
  • When the web client is embedded in an iframe, Laserfiche plugins (i.e., Laserfiche Web Scanning, Microsoft Office Plugin, Digital Signatures) will not be correctly detected and functionality that requires the plugins will fail. (29023)
  • Using the "select all" option in folders containing very large numbers of entries can cause the web client to hang and can result in "Thread was being aborted" and "Request time out" errors in the event viewer. (153328, 19044)
  • When generating pages from fillable PDFs, the information in the fillable fields will be lost. Generating the pages using Laserfiche Snapshot resolves this issue. (142592)

  • When the Laserfiche web client 10.2 is installed, and then uninstalled, and Web Access 9.2 is subsequently installed on the same computer, Web Access 9.2 will not be able to run correctly. Manually deleting the Web Files folder from the Web Access installation folder prior to installing Web Access 9.2 resolves this issue. (152502)
  • Horizontal scrolling in the web client's document viewer behaves inconsistently when the web client is viewed on iOS 9.2 devices. (133307)
  • When multi-selecting electronic documents and opening them, the documents will always open in the document viewer, and not in their native applications. (142362)
  • When using the web client in Chrome, long list or dynamic fields cannot be scrolled through. (149015)
  • If a Laserfiche web client application or plugin (such as Scanning or the Signing Integration) is installed before Firefox is installed, the version of the plugin for Firefox cannot be installed. Manually uninstalling and then reinstalling one of the plugins resolves this issue. (152873)
  • When a document with a PDF portion is under version control, opening older versions of the document in the web client may result in slow performance. (141855)
  • Users may receive a "The address wasn't understood" error when using the context menu in the web client if they are using Firefox with the setting "network.protocol-handler.external.javascript" is set to "true". Setting the value to false (the default option) resolves this issue. (140371)
  • When adding tokens to a Word document using the Laserfiche Office Integration, in some cases only the first value of a multi-value field token will be inserted. (137547)
  • If you change your time zone after applying an event time filter in Audit Trail, events may be incorrectly filtered. Applying the filter again after changing the time zone resolves this issue. (129892)
  • In some cases, users viewing the records pane for a document will receive an "Access denied. [9013]" error if they have not been granted Browse rights for the document's parent folder or folders. (143201)

  • Remote computers cannot view a shared Snapshot printer's Laserfiche Snapshot Properties dialog box. (92426)
  • In the Custom Setup step of the installation wizard, component descriptions are in English even when another language pack is in use. (96169)
  • The Laserfiche Snapshot Printer Preferences dialog box contains untranslated text when used with a language pack. (94599, 94597, 94402, 94326)
  • On the Commands tab in the Customize toolbar dialog box, the Categories listing may list Business Processes twice when a language pack is in use.
  • Web Scanning uses a custom protocol link. This can cause Internet Explorer to display a security warning when using SSL. The Web Scanning web service is still using encrypted (https) communication. (71181)
  • Uninstalling Web Scanning and the Office Plugin will not uninstall the associated language packs.
