A "Forms: The underlying connection was closed, Could not establish trust relationship for the SSL/TLS secure channel" Error Occurs When Adding a Forms Server On the Mobile Configuration Page

Summary

When adding a Forms URL in the Laserfiche Forms Server section of the Laserfiche Mobile Configuration Page, you may receive the following error message:

    Forms: The underlying connection was closed, Could not establish trust relationship for the SSL/TLS secure channel.

Cause

The certificate the Forms server is using to secure the connection is untrusted. Because of this, the Mobile server is unable to trust the certificate.

Resolution

You must connect to the Forms server in Internet Explorer on the Mobile server machine and trust the certificate. The steps to do this are listed below:

  1. Enter the Forms server URL into Internet Explorer on the Mobile server machine.
  2. You will see a web page informing you of a problem with its security certificate. Click Continue to this website (not recommended).
  3. The URL bar will turn pink. Click on Certificate Error to the far right of the URL address.
  4. An Untrusted Certificate dialog will appear. Click View certificates.
  5. You should see an Install Certificate button under the General tab in the Certificate dialog box. If you do not see this button, close Internet Explorer, right-click on Internet Explorer, click Run as administrator, and navigate to the Forms server URL again.
  6. Click Install Certificate.
  7. On the first step of the Certificate Import Wizard, select Local Machine and click Next.
  8. On the Certificate Store step, select Place all certificates in the following store, and click Browse.
  9. Select Trusted Root Certification Authorities and click OK. Click Next.
  10. On the Completing the Certificate Import Wizard step, click Finish.
  11. A Security Warning dialog box will appear. Click Yes to install the certificate.
  12. You will get a success message if the import was successful. Click OK.
  13. Close and reopen Internet Explorer. Enter the Forms server URL into URL bar. This time, you will be taken to the Laserfiche Forms Login page with no security certificate issues.
  14. Enter the Forms server URL under Laserfiche Forms Server on the Laserfiche Mobile Configuration Page and the error should disappear.
