Forms 9.2

Summary

This article highlights changes for Laserfiche Forms 9.2.

New Features

  • Inbox: Users can view and complete pending tasks; review previously completed actions, forms, instance information; finish incomplete forms; and start processes all from the new inbox. When a user selects a task or process, the relevant information, forms, and action history are at hand.
  • Signature Field: Forms can be signed with a stylus, a finger, a mouse, or by choosing a stylized font and typing their name. Users can configure a default signature that they can apply to forms with one click.
  • View, Download, and Email Submitted Forms: If you chose to display a thank you message after users submit a form, users can view a copy of their form below the thank you message. You can also include buttons that let the user download the submitted form as a PDF or email a copy of the form.
  • Submission IP Address: The IP address of a user who submits, approves, or rejects a form is recorded in the instance history (results and reports) and is available as a variable in the process.
  • Arabic Localization: Forms has been translated and localized to support Arabic in addition to English, Spanish, Portuguese, and French.
  • Optimized for Small Browser Sizes (e.g., Mobile Devices): A new option takes advantage of responsive web design to optimize forms filled out on small browsers, such as the browsers found on mobile devices. Several sections of the Laserfiche Forms site have also been optimized for viewing on smaller screens such as the inbox, some administrative pages, reports, and the main navigation.
  • Frequently Asked Questions via Laserfiche Social BPM: You can display questions pulled from the Laserfiche Social BPM product next to a form that starts a process.

Updates to Existing Features

  • Data Sources: You can now edit and refresh data sources, and your lookup rules will continue to work as long as necessary tables, columns, stored procedures, or parameters haven't been removed. The Data Sources page has also been redesigned, making it easier to add and edit data sources.
  • Choosing a Logo on the Themes Page: You can now easily add logos to your forms from the Themes page in the Forms Designer via drag and drop, browsing your computer, choosing among previously uploaded photos, or proving an image URL link.
  • Workflow Service Task: When starting a workflow from the Workflow Service task, you can now choose to wait for the workflow to finish before the Forms Process continues. This feature is only available with Workflow Servers version 9.1.1 and later.
  • Section Field: You can now make sections of your form read-only using the Section field. Additionally, section titles and borders can be hidden.
  • Thank You Page Supports Variables: You can now add variables to your thank you message, or you can add a variable to the redirect URL to customize the website that appears for the user.
  • User Synchronization: User synchronization between Forms, Active Directory, and the Laserfiche repository has been improved.
  • Saving Drafts: You can now customize the text on the email sent to users who save an incomplete form. You can use variables in the email to configure the message specifically for the user who saved the form. Additionally, users that are already logged into Laserfiche Forms don't need to log in again to finish a draft.
  • Lookup Rules: In Forms 9.2, a field will auto-suggest values from a database if a stand-alone Fill statement is configured for the field. Fields can also be conditionally autopopulated if you specify a When + Fill statement. These database lookups can be configured directly in the Form Designer. When you upgrade to 9.2, your lookup rules will continue to behave as before and the conditions on the Lookup Rules page will automatically reflect your existing lookup rule logic.
  • Browser Detection: A warning will appear if you try to use Laserfiche Forms in an unsupported browser.
  • Main Navigation: The main navigation for Laserfiche Forms has been cleaned up and streamlined. User settings can now be found by clicking your user name in the top right and selecting Account.

Fixes and Changes

  • Variables are now supported in field labels, table column labels, tooltips, and the text above and below fields.
  • Variables have a new syntax in which dashes and periods are replaced by underscores. Variables imported from versions earlier than Forms 9.2 will have their variable names updated to match the new syntax in Forms 9.2. However, references to the variables will not be automatically updated and must be manually changed.
  • There are new ways to specify default date and time formats for a variety of features in Laserfiche Forms. See the Configuring Date and Time Settings section of the Forms 9.2 Installation and Configuration Guide for more information.
  • When a form is not read-only, fields that perform a conditional database lookup using the CurrentUser variable will use the user who is currently logged in instead of the first user that viewed the form. (112762)
  • Processes that begin with a timer start events will no longer be displayed in the Start Process list. (119269)
  • Users now can't start a user synchronization when user synchronization is already in progress. (109021)
  • When configuring an Email Approval Server, the Inbox folder can now be set to "Inbox." (109789)
  • When a form has a date field's format is yyyy-mm-dd or a date field is non-read-only, custom JavaScript fields are now shown on PDFs generated by Save to Repository service task. (118886)
  • Database lookups now work in Internet Explorer 8. (116551)
  • For hidden required Checkbox and File Upload fields, when the user shows the field, fills it out, and submits the form, the submission will succeed on the first try. (116732)
  • When a date field is governed by multiple field rules, clicking in that date field will no longer hide the fields that the field rule was supposed to show. (115759)
  • When using field rules to show and hide fields in a table or collection, the rules will now evaluate based on the other fields in that item rather than always using the first item's values. (117482)
  • The field alert for radio buttons and checkboxes now appears below the field so it doesn't obscure any options. (103408)
  • Database lookups now support non dbo schemas. (115801)
  • Shadow and round corners for Form borders now appear on the PDFs and TIFs generated by the Save to Repository service task. (114804)
  • Multiple fields on same form can no longer use same variable. (112377)
