Configuring IIS 6 for the Workflow 9 Web Service.

Summary

If the machine that hosts the Workflow Web Service is using IIS 6, some additional configuration may be required. You must enable ASP.NET 4, and you may need to configure the Workflow Web Service's URL in the Workflow Configuration Manager so that it includes the port the web service is using.

Installation

To install IIS 6 on Windows XP x64

  1. Click Start.
  2. Click Control Panel.
  3. Double-click Add or Remove Programs.
  4. Click Add/Remove Windows Components.
  5. In the Windows Component Wizard dialog box, select Internet Information Services (IIS).
  6. Click Next. You may be asked to insert your Windows XP Installation CD.
  7. Click Finish.

To install IIS 6 on Windows Server 2003

  1. Click Start, point to Control Panel, and click Add or Remove Programs.
  2. Click Add/Remove Windows Components.
  3. Click Application Server and click Details.
  4. Select Internet Information Services (IIS).
  5. Click Finish.

Allowing ASP.NET 4

After installing IIS 6, make sure to allow ASP.NET 4.

  1. Click Start.
  2. Click Control Panel.
  3. Double-click Administrative Tools.
  4. Double-click Computer Management.
  5. On the left side of the dialog box, expand Services and Applications, and then Internet Information Services.
  6. Select Web Service Extensions.
  7. In the Contents Pane, select ASP.NET v4, and click Allow.

Configuring the Workflow Web Service

Make sure the Workflow Web Service option is configured in the Workflow Configuration Manager.

  1. Open the Workflow Configuration Manager.
  2. Click the link next to Workflow Web Service. The link may say either Not Configured or Configured.
  3. Note: You may receive a warning message that the Configuration Manager cannot automatically configure the Web Service settings for IIS 6.

  4. In the Workflow Web Service dialog box, make sure that the URL is correct.
