The Workflow 9.0 Installation Cannot Install the Workflow Web Services Feature If The Web Server Does Not Have Default Web Site.

February 4, 2013 | KB: 1013162
Workflow Suite 9.0

Summary

The Workflow 9.0 installation process cannot install the Workflow Web Services feature if there is no Default Web Site site in IIS. You may receive an "Installation Failed" message.

In a installation log, you will see something similar to the following:

WriteIIS7ConfigChanges: Error 0x80070002: Site not found for create application.
WriteIIS7ConfigChanges: Error 0x80070002: Failed to configure IIS application.
    WriteIIS7ConfigChanges: Error 0x80070002: WriteIIS7ConfigChanges Failed.

Cause

The Workflow 9.0 installation process checks for the existence of an IIS site named Default Web Site.

Workaround

Make sure that there is site named Default Web Site in IIS. In a default installation of IIS, Windows always creates a Default Web Site. If you previously renamed Default Web Site, please rename the site back to Default Web Site.
