Summary
After applying hotfix 1013102 or 1013111, Quick Fields 8.3 may not properly start on Windows XP or Windows Server 2003.
Cause
Quick Fields hotfix 1013102 adds support for the System cryptography: Use FIPS compliant algorithms for encryption, hashing, and signing security policy. To support the security policy, Quick Fields checks for the existence of the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\FipsAlgorithmPolicy registry key. If this registry key does not exist, Quick Fields does not start.
Resolution
This issue is resolved in Quick Fields hotfix 1013161.
Workaround
On the affected Windows XP or Windows Server 2003 computer, use the Windows Registry Editor to manually create the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\FipsAlgorithmPolicy registry key.
Warning: Incorrectly editing the registry may adversely affect your system. Before you edit the registry, make sure you have a backup and understand how to restore it if a problem occurs.
