Summary

License Manager 8.3.1 is a maintenance release that contains updates to the License Manager service and the administration console. For a list of changes, please see Knowledge Base article 1013143.

General Information

A License Manager Server controls licensing and activation for Laserfiche products in a Laserfiche Rio installation. Through License Manager, an administrator can generate application licenses for available Laserfiche applications, can allocate available licenses to user accounts, and perform other actions involving license administration.

The License Manager Administration Console is a Microsoft Management Console (MMC) 3.0 snap-in. MMC 3.0 is included in Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 3, Windows Server 2003 R2, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows 8, and Windows Server 2012. If you are running an earlier version of Windows XP or Windows Server 2003, MMC 3.0 is available as a download from Microsoft's Web site.

Installation Information

For new installations, License Manager defaults to running as the built-in Local Service account. This configuration is not supported on the 32-bit version of Windows XP. If you are installing License Manager on the 32-bit version of Windows XP, please configure the service to run as an account with local administrative rights.

Upgrade Information

License Manager 8.3 contains a redesigned Active Directory synchronization option that features streamlined options for ease of use. License Manager now only monitors Windows groups for users added or removed from that group.

The License Manager 8.3 upgrade process does not migrate any existing License Manager 8.1/8.2 Active Directory subscriptions; you must create new synchronization rules.

Note: If your process requires using synchronization features that are no longer supported in License Manager 8.3, such as monitoring a container for added or removed devices, you can continue to use License Manager 8.2. However, if possible, we strongly recommend upgrading to the most recent version of License Manager to take advantage of enhancements to the user experience.

Known Issues

  • Modifying the version number on an existing registered application instance of Laserfiche Server 8.0/8.1 to 9.0 and then generating a new license file may result in an invalid license file. Laserfiche Server 9.0 no longer supports the legacy format for the hardware fingerprint used by Laserfiche 8.0 and 8.1. (94846)
  • You will receive a "there was an HTTP exception. (2016)" error message if you use a legacy version of the License Manager Administration Console to connect to a License Manager 8.3 licensing database and select the Active Directory Subscriptions node. (87920)
