Laserfiche Contains A 1023 Character Limit For Entry Paths.

Laserfiche 8, Laserfiche 9

Summary

Laserfiche expects the full path for an entry to be less than 1023 characters. Usually, attempting to exceed this limit will display a "Path too long. [9007]" message; however, Laserfiche does not always enforce this maximum path length limit. One scenario that can result in exceeding the limit is by moving or cutting and pasting folders. When moving folders, Laserfiche does not enforce the path limit for performance reasons. Exceeding the path limit in this manner results in unexpected behavior.

In such a scenario, you may see the following symptoms:

  • Attempting to rename affected entries will display a "Path too long. [9007]" error message.
  • You cannot delete these entries.
  • If the Search Results pane is configured to display the Path column, searches that return the affected entries cause an "Error executing SQL command. General database error. [9008]" error message.
