Quick Fields 8.3

Summary

Quick Fields 8.3 is a major release that includes new features, bug fixes, and user interface enhancements.

This article covers:

Installation Information

The Quick Fields 8.3 installation will upgrade any existing Quick Fields 8.0 installations.

The Quick Fields installation automatically installs Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 if it is not already installed. However, if you are using Windows Server 2008 R2, you must manually enable the .NET Framework 3.5.1 feature prior to installing Quick Fields.

Quick Fields 8.3 should not be installed on machines hosting versions 8.1.2 and earlier of the Laserfiche Client and versions 8.1 and earlier of Import Agent. If it is, OCR in those versions of those applications will not work.

Known Issues

See the following list of known issues in Quick Fields 8.3.

  • Tools>Options>Advanced>Limit the number of documents in line to be processed to ___: This option applies to newly scanned documents. Therefore, if your limit is 10, and you scan a stack of new documents and stop scanning with 9 documents left in the queue to be processed, depending on how slow your processing is, you could end up with as much as 19 documents in your queue if you restart the scan (the 9 old documents and the 10 new ones). Quick Fields will not scan any more documents until these 19 are processed, unless you happen to stop processing again, in which case you could have 10 more documents scanned in (86440).
  • Starting and stopping scans several times can crash the batch processor (86153).
  • If you add a Fixed Annotation or Auto-Annotation process before a Rotate process, the annotation that is added will not be rotated with the image (81747).
  • The language packs you have installed will not uninstall when you uninstall Quick Fields using Add/Remove from the computer's control panel. You have to uninstall the language packs separately or run setup.exe (on the original CD or downloaded from the Support Site) if you want Quick Fields to remove the language packs. You also will need to use setup.exe to install any language packs you want installed (87361).
  • A document with a template is retrieved from the repository (using Laserfiche Capture Engine) to be processed in Quick Fields. The Quick Fields session adds another field not associated with the template to the document during processing. When the document is stored, it's stored with its original template plus the field that was added during processing (if the field has a value) (85689).
  • You may get an "unhandled exception" error if you try to drag the Document Revision Pane from its default location to a floating state (and vice versa). Click Continue and Quick Fields will continue to function properly (85470).
  • If the name of a document is retrieved from a token and has a leading space, you will receive an error. Document names cannot lead with a space. To remove the leading space, you will need to use pattern matching or a custom query (57540).
  • Sometimes setting a template for a document class does not save. You may have to click Set twice before it saves.(46151)
  • Real-Time Lookup: If you are using a field to trigger the lookup, renaming the trigger field in the Laserfiche Administration Console with Quick Fields closed will not update the field name. You have to open Quick Fields and click Refresh under the Properties tab in the Tasks Pane when you have the document class selected. (51454)
  • When working with large images, you may get an error if your machine does not have enough memory for Quick Fields to open an entire image. (76625)
  • Running some image processes slightly alters the image's dpi (88297).
  • Retrieve PDF Form Contents: Using the English version of Quick Fields, configure this process with at least two fields. Save the session and open it in the Spanish version of Quick Fields. The Select Fields button in the Spanish version will be off the screen until you add or remove a field (by clicking on the master form to open the PDF Editor). Once you add or remove a field in this way, the pane will refresh and the button will be displayed correctly (88468).
  • If you are using TWAIN drivers with the default software that comes with an Epson GT-S50 scanner, scanning will not stop until you quit Quick Fields. This same scanner comes with WIA drivers which seem to work better than TWAIN (88475).
  • Images scanned using WIA drivers are placed in the root of the session folder (C:\ProgramData\Laserfiche\Quick Fields) (88476).
  • Installing Barcode will make ScanConnect appear as an engine in Quick Fields, but the scan engine will not actually be functional until ScanConnect is installed (88477).
  • If you do not keep the electronic file (PDF) when generating Laserfiche Pages from scanned PDFs, text will not be extracted (88478).
  • OmniPage Zone OCR sometimes loses the line breaks when the language is set to Chinese (46780).
  • Connecting to the local machine using its name instead of "localhost" fails if port 8092 is not open in the firewall (50771).
  • Default field values will not be displayed in the Properties Pane if you configured the template or fields in the Document Class Wizard. Change the template to a different template, then change it back to display the default fields (88862).
  • The Quick Fields installer sometimes will not create the desktop shortcuts.
  • The local help files do not open maximized (87884).
