Web Access 8.3.2

Summary

Web Access 8.3.2 is maintenance release aimed at improving document loading performance along with . For a more detailed listing of changes, please see Knowledge Base article 1012962.

Installation Information

  • If you are installing Web Access on a Web Server where the System cryptography: Use FIPS compliant algorithms for encryption, hashing, and signing security policy is enabled, you must disable the Allow Web Access to authenticate using authentication tokens stored in the user's cookies option on the Web Access Configuration page. (82655)
  • When upgrading from a previous version of Web Access 8 to Web Access 8.3, the installation will reset the application pool identity for the WebAccess8AppPool to "Network Service." (66228)
  • Web Access Scanning is included as a standalone installation package on the Web Access DVD. This standalone installation package is automatically copied to your Web Access installation folder so that users can download and install the scanning client on their own computers. If you know that specific computers will need to scan from Web Access, you can choose to directly run the installation package from the DVD on those computers.
  • Select the Custom setup type during the installation to choose to manually install available Language Packs. By default, if you choose to display the installation in a non-English language, the installation attempts to automatically install the corresponding Language Pack.
  • The Laserfiche SharePoint Integrations are included as separate installation packages on the Web Access DVD.
  • Web Access Light is the mobile edition of Web Access. It is designed to be used on mobile devices such as Blackberries. It is included with the Web Access installation. For more information, see the Web Access Light 8.3 Documentation.
  • The Laserfiche Mobile iPhone app requires an installing add-on for your Web Access server. The Laserfiche Mobile Add-on for Web Access is available as part of the Web Access installation process. Select the Custom option during the installation process to enable the Laserfiche Mobile Add-on for Web Access option. For more information, see the Laserfiche Mobile documentation.
  • Web Access includes the option of installing a second copy of the Web Access static components on a separate Web server from the main Web Access server. This allows you to distribute resource load as well as potentially decreasing load times in a WAN environment as remote offices can host their own copies of the static components. The Web Access 8 static components are available in a separate installation package on the Web Access DVD.

Web Access Server System Requirements

Minimum Server Requirements

  • Processor Type (CPU): Pentium 4, AMD Opteron, AMD Athlon 64, or more recent processor
  • Memory: 1 GB RAM
  • Operating system: Windows Server 2003 (Service Pack 1) with IIS 6, Windows Server 2008 with IIS 7, Windows Vista (Service Pack 2) Premium or higher with IIS 7, Windows 7 with IIS 7.5, Windows Server 2008 R2 with IIS 7.5

Note: Server operating systems (Windows Server 2008, etc.) are preferred.

Recommended Server Requirements

  • CPU: 2.8 GHz or faster processor
  • Memory: 2 GB RAM

Note: Hardware requirements may fluctuate based on the number of users logged in to the server. If you expect to have many simultaneous connections to your Web Access server, we encourage you to configure it with a faster CPU and/or add more RAM.

Note: Serving high-resolution images can require large amounts of system resources. If your repository contains high-resolution images, make sure that the total paging file size on the Web Access server is at least twice the amount of physical memory (RAM).

Compatibility Information

  • Laserfiche Server 8: Laserfiche Web Access 8.3 requires version 8.3 or later of the Laserfiche Server. Web Access is not compatible with standalone editions of Laserfiche (Executive, Desktop, etc.).
  • Web Access is an ASP.NET 2.0 Web application for IIS. If you are running IIS 7, make sure the IIS Metabase and IIS 6 configuration compatibility feature is enabled for your IIS 7 installation. Ensure the Windows Authentication feature in IIS 7 is enabled.
  • Internet Information Services (IIS): IIS 6 (Windows Server 2003), IIS 7 (Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008), IIS 7.5 (Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2).
  • Client Workstation: Web Access is best viewed using Internet Explorer 6 or later, Firefox 3 or later, Safari 4 or later, Chrome 6 or later.
  • Note: Internet Explorer 6 and 7 users should install Microsoft security update 947864 (MS08-024).

  • Mobile Device: Web Access Light has been optimized for Blackberry, Opera, and Safari. However it may be functional on other mobile browsers.

Known Issues

  • When using Internet Explorer, the Template Field search type only auto-suggests the first 5000 items in a dynamic field that contains more than 5000 values. (86343)
  • You may receive an "Entry Not Found. [9001]" error when you use a URL to directly open a document that contains no pages and the thumbnail pane is disabled in the Document Viewer. (85210)
  • If the Laserfiche Mobile Add-on for Web Access installation process encounters an error, the displayed error message may seem to indicate that the entire installation is being rolled back. The rollback does not affect the Web Access installation if it was completed successfully. (82218)
  • Deleting the parent field value in dynamic field pair and then setting a new value may prevent the children fields from loading properly. This issue only occurs when the parent dynamic field is a multiple value field. This issue does not occur if you save after deleting the value. This issue also does not occur if you directly change the parent field value without deleting it. (82161)
  • Signing multiple documents can be a slow task. (81668)
  • The Digital Signatures ActiveX Control does not support the 64-bit (x64) version of Internet Explorer. (81643)
  • Installing the 32-bit (x86) Oracle 11 Client may break the 64-bit (x64) version of Web Access. Install the 64-bit version of the Oracle 11 Client. (78707)
  • The Export for Transfer records management option does not provide the option to encrypt the Laserfiche briefcase file. (76544)
  • Zooming in on a page that contains image annotations and then moving the image around can cause Internet Explorer to become non-responsive. (74429)
  • Web Access Scanning uses a custom protocol link. This can cause Internet Explorer to pop up a security warning when using SSL. The Web Access Scanning Web service is still using encrypted (https) communication. (71181)
  • The Web Access Mobile Add-On Installation relies on the Web Access setup.exe to automatically start the service after the installation. If you manually run the .msi, you must manually start the service after the installation.
  • Users with the Write Entry Security entry access right cannot undo another user's check out if that doc is under version control. (73842)
  • The Metadata display in Web Access only displays the first 10,000 values in a dynamic field that contains more than 10,000 values. (80873)
