Summary

After applying the 64-bit version of the Laserfiche Client 8.3 Microsoft Office Integration .msp file included in Laserfiche 8.3.0 Service Pack 2 (Knowledge Base article 1012921), you may receive the following error message when opening up documents on your 64-bit computer.

Failed to initialize metadata display
Could not create required control. [6720]

Cause

This issue only affects 64-bit workstations. There is an internal installation issue where the 64-bit version of the Microsoft Office Integration .msp file (lfofficex64_830514.msp) overwrites the 32-bit versions of the following 3 files in "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common files\Laserfiche\Controls" with the 64-bit versions of those files.

• LFDocInterfaces83.dll
• LFMetadata83.ocx

Resolution

This issue does not exist if you downloaded Laserfiche 8.3.0 Service Pack 2 after March 13, 2012.

Workaround

If you downloaded Laserfiche 8.3.0 Service Pack 2 prior to March 13, 2012 for a 64-bit workstation, and have already applied the 64-bit version of the Office Integration .msp file to the workstation, you can manually replace the affected files.
