Installing the 32-bit Version of Web Access 8 on a 64-bit Version of Windows.

March 5, 2012 | KB: 1012932
Web Access 8.2, Web Access 8.3

Summary

In Web Access 8.2 and later, the installation contains both a 32-bit and 64-bit version of Web Access. Depending on the architecture of the operating system, the installation process automatically installs the version corresponding to your version of Windows. On the 64-bit versions of Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP, this can cause compatibility issues because IIS 6.0 does not support running 32-bit and 64-bit worker processes concurrently.

See the following scenario:

  • You enable IIS 6.0 to run 32-bit applications on your 64-bit version of Windows Server 2003 or Windows XP.
  • You install Web Access 8.2 or later. The installation automatically detects that you have a 64-bit OS and installs the 64-bit version of Web Access.
  • You will receive a "Service Unavailable" error message when loading the Web Access site.

Resolution

Manually launch the Web Access installation's setup.exe with the following command-line parameter:

/force32bit

The installation process will install the 32-bit version of Web Access.

  1. Click Start, All Programs, Accessories, and click Command Prompt to load a command prompt.
  2. At the command prompt, type the following:
  3. "C:\temp\Web Access 8.3.1\en-US\WebAccess\Install\setup.exe" /force32bit

Replace "C:\temp\Web Access 8.3.1" with the actual location of the installation package.
