Modifying Connection And Operation Timeout Limits For Workflow 8.3.

April 9, 2020 | KB: 1012896
Workflow Suite 8.3

Summary

By default, connections initiated from client applications (namely, the Workflow Designer and the Workflow Administration Console) have a connection timeout value of 2 seconds and a single operation timeout value of 30 seconds. In a high latency scenario, these operations may take longer than the specified limits, which would manifest as "An error occurred communicating with the workflow server" messages in the Workflow Designer or the Workflow Administration Console.

Resolution

With Workflow Server 8.3.0.941 or later (Knowledge Base article 1012886), you can modify the ConnectionTimeout and OperationTimeout string values under the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Laserfiche\Workflow\Options" registry key or the "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Laserfiche\Workflow\Options" registry key. Workflow checks the HKEY_CURRENT_USER value first. If there is no value, it then checks under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE. These registry keys need to be added to the machines where the Workflow Designer and Workflow Administration Console are installed.
