An "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" Error Occurs When Web Access 8 Is Hosted on a FIPS Compliant Computer.

Summary

When Web Access 8 is installed on a Web Server where the System cryptography: Use FIPS compliant algorithms for encryption, hashing, and signing security policy is enabled, Web Access may not load. If you are using Internet Explorer, you may see a generic error message when loading Web Access:

    Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage

Resolution

Web Access requires additional configuration to function in a FIPS compliant Web Server. There is also an additional hotfix for Web Access 8.3 or Web Access 8.3 that is an updated version of a third-party library, Brettle.Web.NeatUpload.dll (version 1.3.26).

  1. Open the Web Access 8 web.config file located in the "Web Files" subfolder of the Web Access 8 installation folder and apply the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article.

    By default, the Web Access web.config is located in "C:\Program Files\Laserfiche\Web Access 8\Web Files."

  3. If your Web Server is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2, you may also need to apply the following Microsoft hotfix.

  5. Click the following link to download an updated version of Brettle.Web.NeatUpload.dll.
  6. Hotfix_SCR82575.zip

  7. Back up your current copy of Brettle.Web.NeatUpload.dll located in "C:\Program Files\Laserfiche\Web Access 8\Web Files\bin."
  8. Copy the hotfix version of Brettle.Web.NeatUpload.dll to "C:\Program Files\Laserfiche\Web Access 8\Web Files\bin."
  9. Open a Web browser and load the Web Access 8 configuration page.
  10. Disable the Allow Web Access to authenticate using authentication tokens stored in the user's cookies option by clearing the check box next to the option.
