Laserfiche 8, Laserfiche 9

Summary

This article documents a set of steps for moving an existing Laserfiche Server to a new computer.

More Information

To change the location of your Laserfiche Server installation

  1. Using the Laserfiche Administration Console, unregister all your repositories hosted on the Laserfiche Server.
  2. Uninstall the Laserfiche Server.
  3. Note: If necessary, manually deactivate the Laserfiche Server license. Please see Knowledge Base article 1012301.

  4. Take note of the location of each repository's local folder. This is the folder that contains the AUDIT, LOGS, SEARCH8, and TEMP subfolders. You will have to copy the contents of this folder to the server.
  5. On the new server, install and activate Laserfiche Server 8.
  6. Copy the repository folder noted in step 3 from the old server to the new server. Repeat as needed for each repository that was hosted on the previous server.
  7. Using the Laserfiche Administration Console, register each repository with the new Laserfiche Server.

The above steps assume that any SQL databases and volume files are stored on a different machine from the Laserfiche Server and do not need to be moved along with the Laserfiche Server.

If volume files are stored on the previous computer hosting the Laserfiche Server and must also be moved to the new computer, please also take note of the existing volume paths during step 3 and copy the volume files over to the new server during step 5.

If you want to move any repository's Microsoft SQL Server database files, please see Knowledge Base article 1011155
