Images May Contain Invalid Characters When Using Laserfiche Snapshot To Generate Image Pages.

Summary

In certain situations, When using Laserfiche Snapshot to generate images from an electronic file, the resulting image pages may contain only invalid text.

Resolution

Laserfiche Snapshot 9.1 and later include an updated version of the Black Ice virtual printer driver that may resolve most instances of this issue. Please upgrade to the most recent version of Laserfiche.

Workaround 1

If Snapshot is installed on Windows 7, view the Windows Devices and Printers settings to modify a Snapshot printer option.

  1. Click Start and click Devices and Printers.
  2. Right-click on Laserfiche Snapshot and click Printer properties.
  3. In the Laserfiche Snapshot Properties dialog box, click on the Advanced tab.
  4. Clear the Enable advanced printing features check box.

Workaround 2

If you are printing a PDF file and are not using Windows 7, enable the Print as image option in your Adobe Reader settings.

  1. Open the PDF in Adobe Reader.
  2. From the File menu, click Print.
  3. In the Print dialog box, click on the "Advanced" option.
  4. In the Advanced Print Setup dialog box, select the Print as image option and click OK.
  5. Reprint the PDF file using the Laserfiche Snapshot printer.

More Information

Both workarounds prevent Snapshot from being able to automatically extract text from the electronic file. You must OCR the resulting image pages.
