Quick Fields 8

Summary

Consider the following scenario:

  1. User 1 logs in to a computer with an English installation of Microsoft Windows. User 1 installs and successfully activates Quick Fields 8.
  2. User 2 logs in to the same computer. User 2's Windows profile uses a Windows language pack to display Windows in a non-English language. When User 2 attempts to open Quick Fields, The Quick Fields Start Page displays an "Invalid license" error message.

Cause

Quick Fields 8 contains an internal licensing component that automatically checks whether the hardware fingerprint of the computer matches the hardware fingerprint stored in the license file. The hardware-fingerprint-calculation algorithm incorrectly relies on values that change when the Operating system language changes. This causes Quick Fields to report that the hardware fingerprint stored in the current license file does not match the current computer's hardware fingerprint.
