Laserfiche Scanning 8 May Require Local Administrator Privileges To Save Scanner Settings In A UAC Environment.

Laserfiche 8, Scanning 8, Laserfiche 9

Summary

When using ISIS scanner drivers (ScanConnect), Laserfiche Scanning saves scanner settings in a "SETSCAN.INI" file located in the "C:\Windows" folder. In a UAC environment in Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, or Windows 7, Laserfiche Scanning may not have rights to create or write to that file.

By default, "C:\Windows" is a protected location. When Laserfiche Scanning cannot modify SETSCAN.INI, scanner settings revert to default values each time you start a new scanning session.

Resolution

Run the Laserfiche Client with elevated permissions, open Laserfiche Scanning, and configure the scan engine. You only need to do this one time to save the scanner settings. You do not need to disable UAC permanently or load the Laserfiche Client with elevated permissions for general use.

To load the Laserfiche Client with elevated permissions

  1. Click Start, All Programs, Laserfiche, right-click on Laserfiche Client 8.x and select Run as administrator.

Note: You will need to repeat this process if you install a new scanner or update the scanner driver and want to save changes to scanner settings.
