The 64-bit Version of the Laserfiche 8 Migration Utility Cannot Connect to the 32-bit Version of the Oracle Client.

Summary

The 64-bit version of the Laserfiche 8 Migration Utility requires the 64-bit version of the Oracle Client. Because Laserfiche Server 7 is a 32-bit application, a 64-bit computer hosting Laserfiche Server 7 may only have the 32-bit version of the Oracle Client installed. If you then install the Laserfiche 8 Migration Utility on this same computer, the utility will be unable to connect to your Oracle server using the 32-bit tools.

Resolution 1

Install the 64-bit version of the Oracle Client.

Resolution 2

The Setup.exe for the Laserfiche 8 Migration Utility automatically installs the 64-bit version of the utility when run on a 64-bit version of Windows. You can choose to manually run the 32-bit .msi installer package file to install the 32-bit version of the migration utility. The 32-bit version of the migration utility is compatible with the 32-bit version of the Oracle Client.

To manually install the 32-bit English version of the migration utility on a 64-bit Operating System

  1. Open your Laserfiche 8 installation media and browse to the "Migration" subfolder.
  2. Double-click LF8MgUtl-ENG.msi to launch the installation.
