Sending E-mails with Long Subject Lines from Microsoft Outlook to Laserfiche May Fail.

February 7, 2011 | KB: 1012695
Laserfiche 8

Summary

Laserfiche's Microsoft Office integration enables you to send files from an Office application (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook) into your repository. Using this integration to send e-mails from Outlook (2003, 2007, and 2010) may fail if the e-mail's subject line is too long.

Note: The maximum supported character length for the subject line is unknown, though internal tests show subject lines approaching 250 characters often fail.

Note: This issue may apply to only dragging and dropping e-mails from Outlook into the Laserfiche Client, though it may apply to using the Save to Laserfiche option from the Office application instead or as well.

Cause

Outlook is unable to correctly export e-mails with long subject lines (for example, if you attempt to drag/drop an e-mail with a long subject line from Outlook to the machine's desktop, you will likely receive an error). As a result, Laserfiche is unable to perform the import operation.

Resolution

While there is no known resolution to this Microsoft issue, a possible work-around is to convert the content of the e-mail to a different format, such as copying/pasting the content into a text file or printing it as a .pdf, and then importing it into Laserfiche.
