Laserfiche 8.2

Summary

Laserfiche 8.2 is a major release to the core Laserfiche Server and Client products that include a wide range of new features. For a more detailed listing of changes, please see Knowledge Base article 1012689

Laserfiche Server Installation Information

When upgrading from a previous version of Laserfiche 8, you can use the same activation key you received with Laserfiche Server 8.1.

The installation process works best when run from local media. Certain aspects of the installation wizard may not function correctly when run directly from a network drive or file share. For example, the installation may not automatically resume following a reboot after installing the setup prerequisites; you must manually restart the installation. Or you may be unable to assign a domain account during the service configuration step of the installation.

Rerun the installation (using Setup.exe) to be able to uninstall all Server components at once. Otherwise, you can choose to uninstall individual components using the Programs and Features option or Add or Remove Programs option in the Windows Control Panel.

Audit Trail Web Reporting Requirements

  • Web Server: IIS 5.1 (Windows XP), IIS 6 (Windows XP x64 and Windows Server 2003), IIS 7 (Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008), or IIS 7.5 (Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2)
  • DBMS: Microsoft SQL Server 2005, Microsoft SQL Server 2008, Oracle 10g, or Oracle 11g
  • Web Browser: Internet Explorer 7, Internet Explorer 8, Firefox 2, or Firefox 3 on the computer from which you will configure and generate reports.

Product Issue
Administration Console Unregistering and reregistering a repository resets the location of the audit logs. (34062)
Audit Trail Previous versions of Audit Trail cannot import Laserfiche 8.2 audit logs that contain any events new to Laserfiche 8.2.
Audit Trail The "Configure Laserfiche Audit Trail 8" and "Laserfiche Audit Trail 8 Main Page" links in the Start menu do not have the correct icons. (36038)
Audit Trail Large legends can potentially obscure chart data. (34888)
Client The "Send to Laserfiche" support for Office 2010 is limited to the 32-bit version of Office 2010.
Client Laserfiche may not properly display certain images without the latest Windows Imaging Component updates. Please see the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

Client You may be unable to extract or OCR a document during the document creation/import process if you are creating/importing the document into a frozen record folder. As a workaround, you can import (along with OCR) into a different folder, then move the record into the frozen record folder. (47575)
Client Certain large images can cause the Laserfiche Client to display error 6602. Generating thumbnails for these images use up too much system resources. (41991)
Client Certain field constraint masks may not display in the Laserfiche Client. (39598)
Client The Laserfiche Client does not allow you to specify a default field token if the name of the token exceeds the defined length of the field. (39382)
Client You may need to restart you computer after installing the Laserfiche Client. (36106)
Client The "Recent Documents" listing in the File menu can truncate path information using a ellipsis. This means that documents with the same name that are located in different parts of your repository may appear as duplicate items in the "Recent Documents" listing. (35149)
Client There may be certain annotation display issues when using the Laserfiche Client through Remote Desktop. For example, a sticky note may display as black even though you chose a different color. However, after saving changes, the sticky note appears as the desired color. Another example is that attachment annotation icons may not display properly.(33325, 34844)
Client You cannot remove the assigned template when you multi-select multiple documents. (26049)
Client Pressing the SPACEBAR will not automatically populate a date/time field if the field already contains a value. (28005)
Scanning 1012020 An "Element 'PageRange' was not found." Error Occurs When Launching Laserfiche Scanning in Basic Mode. (39960)
Scanning Laserfiche Scanning does not support setting the ENTER key as a keyboard shortcut. (43485)
Scanning A user with the Manage Metadata privilege may be unable to send a document to Laserfiche if the assigned template has a field with a default value and the user does not have the Create field access right on that field. (40185)
Scanning Laserfiche Scanning can recover scanned documents after a crash. However, Scanning may not recover unique document names. (36258)
Scanning Laserfiche Scanning and the OCR engine are both components of the Laserfiche Client installation. During the Laserfiche Client installation, if you choose to install Laserfiche Scanning, but do not choose to install the OCR engine, the OCR process in Laserfiche Scanning will be available. However, if you configure your scanning process with an OCR process, it will silently fail. (35524)
Server 1012733 The 32-bit version of Laserfiche Server 8.2 Supports a Maximum of 5 Search Catalogs. (67417)
Server Previous versions of the Laserfiche 8.0 Client will not be fully compatible with Laserfiche Server RME 8.2. For example, final disposition cannot be applied because the Client doesn't detect its eligibility correctly. (64416)
Server Previous versions of the Laserfiche 8.0 Administration Console will not be fully compatible with Laserfiche Server 8.1. For example, attempting to change a trustee name will return a "trustee not be found (9012)" error message.
Server 1012018 Performing a Search On All Fields May Be Significantly Slower Than Performing A Search On One Field. (39377)
Server It is possible to exceed the path length limit by dragging a folder into another folder. However, you will not be able to modify child entries past the path length limit. Move the appropriate folder to another location in your folder structure. (35791)
Server Private annotations created by a Laserfiche user will not be visible when importing a briefcase into a different repository. (35481)
Server Removing a Windows account from the Windows Account node in the Laserfiche Administration Console will not automatically remove any existing ACE's using that Windows account from your repository. (35349)
Server Annotation and document creator information is preserved when exporting a briefcase. if you then import the briefcase into the same repository, the information is retained. However, if you import the briefcase into a different repository, the annotation creator and document creator properties will be left blank as it is possible that no such user exists in the repository. (33898)
Server Uninstalling Laserfiche on Windows Vista may not immediately remove all Laserfiche files from the Windows SxS folder. Windows Vista maintains strict control of that directory and only records that an uninstallation process has requested that files be removed from the WinSxS directory. Windows Vista will then decide to remove the uninstalled files at a later time. (33308)
Server The number type field supports up to 5 decimal places. If you specify a number with more than 5 decimal places, Laserfiche will round off to 5 decimal places. (32159, 33104)
Server An administrator with the Manage Trustees privilege can delete Laserfiche user and group accounts. If this administrator does not also have the Set Trustee Privileges privilege, deleting all user and group accounts can create a scenario where the remaining administrator is unable to recreate the full set of user accounts. Server When exporting a volume in Laserfiche 6 or Laserfiche 7 format, the exported volume can contain documents with multi-value fields. However, if you attach the exported volume to a Laserfiche 6 or 7 repository, the data in the multi-value fields will be lost. (29346)
Server The log file for failed briefcase imports will not log the name of the briefcase if you are using a legacy client to import the briefcase. (29182)
Server Failed login attempts using invalid user names are not audited. (27658)
Snapshot Snapshot may incorrectly open multiple instances when printing an Excel file if you choose to print the entire workbook. (41363)
Snapshot If Snapshot 7 and Snapshot 8 are installed on the same machine, the Snapshot Configuration (Current User) Start menu icon for Snapshot 8.0 will look like the Snapshot 7 version of the icon. (37584)
Snapshot Switching repositories from the Snapshot Configuration dialog or the Document Properties dialog will no longer attempt to match templates. The template will always reset to 'No template assigned' and all independent fields that had been configured for the original repository will be removed. (37576)
Snapshot You cannot configure Snapshot to use the default template, as specified in the Laserfiche Client, when creating new documents. (37510)
Snapshot When uninstalling Snapshot from Windows Vista, the uninstallation process will ask to shut down the print spooler. However, it will not automatically restart the service after the uninstallation process. You will need to manually restart the service. (37364)
Snapshot The Manage Printers Windows permission on the Snapshot printer is needed in order to be able to open the Snapshot printer preferences from the Snapshot Configuration dialog box, or from the Properties option when you Snapshot from within the Laserfiche Client.
Snapshot If a network print job fails to import, field tokens will get substituted at the time of successful import, not at the time of the original print job. (37759)
