Laserfiche 8.2

Summary

This article highlights new features and changes for Laserfiche 8.2.0.

Laserfiche Server:

  • Laserfiche Server 8.2 includes various performance improvements for folder browsing and searching.
  • Laserfiche now supports tokens in sticky note, callout text box, and text box annotations.
  • You can now write data into encrypted/compressed volumes.
  • Logical volumes can now rollover based on a specified time period.
  • Recycle Bin Changes:
    • You can now view Recycle Bin items for a specific folder or document.
    • You can now restore or purge specific deleted pages from a document.
    • You can now restore or purge the deleted electronic file portion of an electronic document.
  • You can now configure dynamic fields by assigning a parent/child relationship between two fields. Specifying a value in the parent field will automatically modify the available values in the child field.
  • You can now add a watermark to Laserfiche tags. Documents associated with such a tag will display the watermark when viewed, printed, or exported.
  • Fields can now be assigned a custom format for viewing purposes.
  • TSGopher.exe is a command-line utility that can retrieve Laserfiche configuration information and automatically upload that information to a Laserfiche Technical Support Helpdesk Case.
  • Records Management Changes:
    • Event type cutoff instructions with multiple events now support the option to only require 1 event date be set before triggering cutoff eligibility.
    • New cutoff instruction types:
      • Superseded: Replaces the Records must be superseded option previously available in the Retention Schedule properties.
      • Disposition Action: General form of the superseded cutoff instruction type. Instead of requiring the Superseded by link type, you can choose your own.
      • Interval: Specify a time period (number of months) before a record becomes eligible for cutoff.
      • Interval + Event: Specify a time period (number of months) after an event date before a record becomes eligible for cutoff.
    • You can now manually cutoff an individual record. Records still must inherit their cutoff instruction from their parent record folder.
    • You can now manually perform disposition actions on individual records. Records can be assigned a different retention schedule from their parent record folder.
    • Records management information is now included in Laserfiche 8.2 briefcase files.
    • Interim transfer operations are no longer affected by freeze actions.
    • When making changes to record series properties, you can now propagate your explicit set of changes down to child record series and record folders.
    • There is now an "Event Type" search.
    • Users with the "Close/Reopen Folder" entry access right no longer need to explicitly reopen a folder to file records into a closed record folder.

  • The Effective Rights tab on the Entry Access dialog box can now display a list of effective rights that takes into account tags, privileges, and records management properties for a specified user account. Previously, the displayed list only accounted for the extra settings when viewing the list for the current connection.
  • The folder browser can now display the additional values in a multiple-value field. Mouse over the column value to display a tooltip that lists the additional field values.
  • There is now an option to control whether folders and documents are grouped together in the folder browser.
  • The folder browser includes the following new columns:
    • Last Modified By
    • Locked By
    • Total Document Size
    • Relevance Ranking (only in search results)
  • The Client can now display a warning that a document has been modified by another user since you opened the document and that you must refresh the document before applying any new changes.
  • There is now an option to duplicate the exact access rights of folders and documents when copying and pasting folders and documents.

    • The Search Results listing now includes a "Relevance Ranking" column for full-text searches.
  • There is now expanded support for PDF files. You can now directly generate page images for PDF files to create imaged documents and use native text extraction instead of IFilter text extraction.

  • You can now set image quality level for exported PDF files and JPEG images to control the level of compression for the exported files.
