A "General WMI Error" Occurs When Configuring Web Access 8 or WebLink 8 To Connect to a Laserfiche Server Not Running on Port 80.

September 13, 2010 | KB: 1012668
Web Access 8, WebLink 8

Summary

When using the WebLink 8 Administrator's Utility or the Web Access 8 Configuration page, you may receive a "General WMI Error" message when creating repository configurations for Laserfiche Servers that do not use port 80.

Resolution

By default, the WebLink 8 Administrator's Utility and the Web Access 8 Configuration page expect the Laserfiche Server to be listening on port 80 for HTTP client requests. If a Laserfiche Server is configured to use a different port, you must specify the port value in the "Server" field. For example:

ServerName:PortValue

IPAddress:PortValue

Note: This issue will always occur with a default installation of Laserfiche Server 8 on a 32-bit edition of Windows XP where IIS 5 is running. Due to an IIS 5 limitation, Laserfiche Server cannot share port 80 and instead defaults to using port 5050.
