An "HTTP Error 500.19 - Internal Server Error" Error Page Displays When Loading The Audit Trail 8 Configuration Page.

Summary

When loading the Audit Trail Reporting Configuration site, you may receive an error page with the following error message:

    HTTP Error 500.19 - Internal Server Error
    The requested page cannot be accessed because the related configuration data for the page is invalid.

The detailed error information section of the page may contain the following error message:

    There is a duplicate 'system.web.extensions/scripting/scriptResourceHandler' section defined

Cause

The IIS application pool for Audit Trail Reporting may be configured to use .NET Framework 4. Audit Trail Reporting requires the .NET Framework 2.0 CLR.

Resolution

Use IIS Manager to configure the Audit Trail Reporting application pool to target .NET Framework 2.0. By default, Audit Trail uses the DefaultAppPool application pool.

To configure the .NET Framework version for DefaultAppPool in IIS 7

  1. Click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and select Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager.
  2. Expand the name of the Web Server hosting Audit Trail Reporting and select the Application Pools item.
  3. Right-click on DefaultAppPool and click Basic Settings.
  4. In the Edit Application Pool dialog box, set the .NET Framework version option to .NET Framework v2.0.50727.
  5. Click OK.
