Configuring IIS for Laserfiche 8 Web Products.

April 12, 2010 | KB: 1012567
Agenda Manager 8, Web Access 8, WebLink 8

Summary

All Laserfiche web products require access to a machine hosting Microsoft's Internet Information Services (IIS) component. Since not all versions of Windows include this component by default, you may have to manually install it. In addition, after IIS is installed, it must be manually configured.

Complete all of the relevant steps below. In most, but not all, cases, they should be completed PRIOR to installing any Laserfiche web products.

Laserfiche Agenda Manager 8.0

Complete all of the relevant steps in the following help topics:

  • Ensure you meet the necessary system and software requirements.
  • Enabling ASP Content in IIS 6/7. The default installation of IIS 6.0 and 7.0 must be configured to allow dynamic ASP content to work with Agenda Manager.
  • Enabling IIS 6 Configuration Compatibility. In order to use IIS 7.0, you must enable IIS 6 metabase compatibility.
  • Creating an ASP Handler Mapping. After you have installed Agenda Manager Server, you may have to manually create an ASP handler mapping at the Agenda Manager application level.
  • Increasing the Maximum Upload Size. By default, IIS 6.0 limits the size of requests that pass through the Web server. You can modify this limit.
  • Enabling 32-bit Web Applications on 64-bit IIS 6. If you are hosting the Agenda Manager Web site on a 64-bit version of Windows XP or Windows Server 2003, you must configure IIS to run 32-bit web applications. However, be aware that IIS 6 does not support running 32-bit and 64-bit web applications concurrently on the same server. This means that enabling IIS to run 32-bit web applications will disable support for any 64-bit web applications.

Laserfiche Web Access 8.1

Complete all of the relevant steps in the following help topics:

  • Ensure you meet the necessary system and software requirements.
  • Serving Dynamic Content in IIS 6.0. A default installation of IIS 6.0 (Windows Server 2003) only serves static content. You must configure IIS to allow dynamic ASP.NET content in order to use Laserfiche Web Access.
  • Editing the IIS 6.0 Metabase. The IIS metabase stores configuration information for your installation of IIS. The IIS 6.0 metabase is stored as two XML files. This allows a user to directly edit the metabase and alter its contents using commonly available text editors. While the IIS manager MMC snap-in presents a graphical user interface for editing the metabase, many settings can only be edited by directly modifying the metabase XML files. The metabase xml files are stored at C:\Windows\System32\inetsrv.
  • Configuring IIS 7. IIS 7 offers a wide variety of configuration options, so the exact features you install may depend on your organization's needs. In addition to the features required for basic Web server functionality, make sure the following features are installed on Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008. The items in parentheses after each feature name describe where to find the specific feature.

Note: For earlier versions of Web Access (8.0), some of the links above may not apply. See Laserfiche Web Access 8.0 help files.

Laserfiche WebLink 8.0
