Web Access 8.1

Summary

This article documents the new features for Laserfiche Web Access 8.1.

More Information

The following list highlights some of the major new features in Web Access 8.1.

  • Settings for importing files have been expanded to include specialized e-mail import features. Some new options include:
    • Filing distribution lists.
    • Auto-filling metadata with e-mail properties.
    • How to handle e-mail attachments.
  • The recycle bin now allows you to restore individual deleted pages, as well as electronic files deleted from electronic documents.
  • The Preview Pane in the Folder Browser contains two new features:
    • The ability to click-through a preview of every page in a document.
    • The ability to view and edit a document's metadata directly from the Preview Pane.
  • LDAP accounts and passwords can be used to log in to your repositories.
  • Windows usernames (in the form DOMAIN\username) and passwords can now be "entered" as login credentials to access your repositories. This serves as an alternative to the complicated Kerberos setup when your Web Access server and Laserfiche Server are on different machines.
  • You can now encrypt the connection between your Laserfiche server and your Web Access server using SSL.
  • The Document Viewer now includes the Annotation List View. You can use it to view all of a document's (or page's) annotations via a single consolidated list. You can also use it to:
    • Modify and delete annotations.
    • Jump to a particular annotation in the document.
    • View and modify annotation properties.
  • You can now e-mail individual pages of a Laserfiche imaged document.
  • Several search features have been added or expanded in Web Access 8.1. They include:
    • A new Search Pane, located above the folder tree.
    • OpenSearch, which allows you to search for entries in your repository using your Internet browser's search bar.
    • Windows Federated Search, which allows you to search for entries in your repository using your Windows Explorer search bar.
    • The ability to create custom Quick Searches.
    • An improved Template search type. Now when you select a template, the fields associated with that template are also displayed. You can use it to search by both template and appropriate field values.
    • Auto-suggest for list fields. For list fields with more than 100 list values, Web Access will suggest choices based on what you type. For list fields with less than 100 values, a drop-down menu will display available choices.
    • The ability to jump between context hits in a document using the Next Hit or Previous Hit actions.
    • The ability to use URLs to perform in-document searches.
  • Entries can now be displayed in the Folder Browser using thumbnails.
  • Certain actions, such as moving, copying, renaming, and deleting entries, can be undone. These undone actions can also be redone.
  • A progress bar now displays the progress of actions such as deleting, copying, etc.
  • Two new export options:
    • Include folder structure when exporting search results.
    • Include shortcuts when exporting briefcases.
  • You can now create new informational tags from within Web Access, rather than having to open the Administration Console.
  • A polygon annotation, which allows you to draw a straight-sided shape on a document image page.
  • You can configure a default e-mail message for all e-mails sent from Web Access.
  • When you add more actions than can fit on a toolbar, a drop-down menu is created at the end of the toolbar to store the extra actions.
  • You can specify which confirmation prompts should or should not be displayed when performing certain actions in your repository.
  • Web Access will now retain certain layout settings, such as pane size and visibility, each time you log in.
  • The Document Name token can now be used in watermarks.
  • You can choose what time zone to apply to Web Access.
  • Web Access now supports WebDAV.
  • You can customize which actions and options appear in right-click menus.
  • Web Access can now be viewed in an inline frame (iframe).
  • Web Access provides the ability to use cookies to authenticate user sessions.
  • When configuring e-mail settings, administrators can now use SMTP servers that require usernames and passwords for login.
  • Administrators can explicitly restrict specific Laserfiche or Windows users' access to Web Access on a per repository basis.
  • Administrators can give specific Windows users or groups the ability to access the Configuration Page remotely.
  • A default reply e-mail address can be configured by your Web Access administrator. This address will be displayed in the "From" field for all e-mails sent from Web Access.
  • Administrators can create custom HTML login pages for their Web Access site.
  • You can activate your Web Access installation using an activation key, rather than a license file.
  • Web Access now runs as the application pool user instead of a specific Windows account. This simplifies security setup because administrators no longer have to configure each Windows account's rights to specific folders on the Web Server. Instead, the necessary rights are given to the application pool user during installation.
