A "Failed to import new document." Error Occurs When Importing An Animated GIF File.

Laserfiche 8

Summary

When importing an animated .gif file as an imaged document, you may receive the following error message:

    Failed to import new document.
(The selected page does not have an image.)
    Unknown error. [2106]

The resulting imaged document will only contain one image.

Cause

By default, when importing a standard static .gif file, the Laserfiche Client automatically converts the image into a TIFF file for the imaged document. However, the conversion process does not fully handle an animated multiple-frame .gif file. The conversion process creates a TIFF file of the final frame and creates a 1 page imaged document.

Workaround

To preserve the animated .gif file in its native format, remove the "gif" extension from the File Conversion section of the New Documents node in the Options dialog box. Then import the animated .gif file as an electronic document.
