Exported 8-bit Grayscale Images May Be Larger Than Expected When Exported With Permanent Redactions.

Laserfiche Server - Team (MSDE) 8.1, Laserfiche Server - United (MS SQL) 8.1, Laserfiche Server - United (Oracle) 8.1, Plus 8

Summary

Exported 8-bit grayscale images may be larger than expected when exported with permanent redactions in a Laserfiche briefcase file.

Cause

When exporting to a briefcase file, Laserfiche converts the grayscale images to TIFF-LZW format. This format can have worse compression than JPEG.

Note: When publishing through Laserfiche Plus, this issue can potentially cause a mismatch between the estimated size and the actual published size.

Resolution 1

This issue is resolved in Laserfiche 8.1.1 and later. Please upgrade to the latest version of Laserfiche.

Resolution 2

There is a hotfix available for Laserfiche Server 8.1. The fix is an updated version of lfshlp.exe (version 8.1.0.455). When exporting a briefcase file, the affected images are now exported as JPEG files with compression.

To update Laserfiche Server 8.1

  1. Click the following link to download a zip file containing the hotfix.
  2. Hotfix_SCR48674.zip

  3. Replace your existing version of lfshlp.exe with the updated version included in the zip file. The file is located in the lfshlp subfolder of your Laserfiche Server installation folder. By default, the path is "C:\Program Files\Laserfiche\Server\lfshlp."
