Version 8.x Laserfiche products that require product activation contain an option to activate over the Internet using an activation key. This article describes alternative methods for activating a Laserfiche product when an Internet connection is not available for a specific computer.

Product activation is tied to a specific computer. You must provide a hardware fingerprint and a HostID for the computer.

The Laserfiche 8 Server installation includes two utilities that are needed for product activation:

• showhwfp.exe
• ActivationTool.exe

"Showhwfp.exe" provides the hardware fingerprint and HostID of the machine it is run on.

"ActivationTool.exe" uses the hardware fingerprint and HostID during the process of generating a license file.

Both utilities are located in the Laserfiche Server installation folder. By default, the path is "C:\Program Files\Laserfiche\Server." You can also click one of the following links to download the showhwfp.exe utility.

If the product you wish to activate is located on a different computer, copy "showhwfp.exe" to the desired computer and double-click the utility to run it. The utility displays a window that will show the hardware fingerprint and HostID of the machine. Please have these two values ready when contacting Laserfiche Technical Support.

Offline activation

1. During the installation, you are prompted for your activation key. Specify your activation key and proceed with the installation even if you do not have an Internet connection. At the end of the installation process, you will receive an error message that the activation tool could not contact the Laserfiche activation service.
2. Use the showhwfp.exe utility to generate the appropriate information.
3. Copy ActivationTool.exe and its configuration file (ActivationTool.exe.config) to a computer that does have an Internet connection and launch the Activation utility on that computer.
4. Select the Activate another computer option and fill in the hardware fingerprint and Host ID obtained in step 2.
5. Specify the appropriate activation key and where to save the license file and click OK.
6. Copy the resulting lf.licx file from the current computer to the computer hosting the Laserfiche Server.
7. Restart the Laserfiche Server service.
