An "Adobe Reader could not open 'MyPDF.pdf' because it is either not a supported file type" Error Occurs When Opening a PDF File Downloaded From Web Access.

January 19, 2009 | KB: 1012128
Web Access 7

Summary

When you open a PDF file downloaded from Web Access 7, you may receive the following error message:

Adobe Reader could not open 'PDFFileName.pdf' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded).

Resolution

Web Access may not have sufficient permissions to the temporary cache directory. By default, the cache directory is set to "C:\Temp\Laserfiche Web."

If IIS is configured with an anonymous user, that user must have permissions to read/write to the cache directory. If IIS is configured with Windows authentication, each Windows user who connects to Web Access and downloads documents as PDF files, must be able to read/write to the cache directory.

You can use the Web Access Administrator's Utility to specify a different location for the cache directory.
