Summary
Make sure that TCP ports 80 or 5050, 5051, and 1888 are open on your firewall. If your network contains multiple firewalls, please make sure that the listed ports are open on all firewalls between your Laserfiche Server and your Laserfiche client program.
Note: You can use the Server Settings node of the Laserfiche 8 Administration Console to modify the default port settings for Laserfiche 8 and Laserfiche 6 client communication.
More Information
Laserfiche 8 client programs
By default, Laserfiche Server 8 listens on TCP port 80 or 5050 for requests from version 8 client programs. Laserfiche Server 8 defaults to port 80 except when installed on the 32-bit edition of Windows XP, where Laserfiche defaults to port 5050. The Laserfiche Server broadcasts notifications on port 5051.
Laserfiche 7 client programs
The Laserfiche Firewall Compatibility Component is a utility that allows Laserfiche Server 8 to communicate across a firewall with Laserfiche 7 client programs. There are two components to this utility, one for the computer hosting the Laserfiche Server and another for the computer on which the desired Laserfiche client program resides. After installing the server component, you must set up how the Laserfiche Server will broadcast information. For each computer that cannot communicate with the Laserfiche Server, this configuration consists of installing the client component of this utility (if it is not already installed) and then setting up how each Laserfiche product communicates with the Laserfiche Server. Although the exact procedure that needs to be performed varies by product, the three basic ways to accomplish this are listed below
Note: The client component of the Firewall Compatibility Component should be installed on the computer on which the Laserfiche product is installed. For example, if you would like to configure Laserfiche Web Access (version 7.0.1), then the client component only needs to be installed on the computer where Laserfiche Web Access was installed. Additionally, when configuring how Web Access will connect to a Laserfiche repository, you will need to specify the appropriate IP address, followed by a double colon, and then the custom port assigned to the Laserfiche Server.
channel ref="tcp" port="2040" displayName="Laserfiche FCC Channel"
channel ref="tcp" port="2040" machineName="10.0.1.100" displayName="Laserfiche FCC Channel"
The number "2040" should be replaced by the desired port that must be opened on the firewall. Keep in mind that this port cannot be used by another protocol. The IP address "10.0.1.100" should be replaced by the IP address that client machines will use to connect to the Laserfiche Server.
Note: Be aware that if a NAT firewall is involved, this IP address may not be the actual IP address of the computer hosting the Laserfiche Server.
Important: The Firewall Compatibility Component configuration file is case-sensitive. If the wrong case is used when modifying the configuration file, then the Laserfiche FCC 7.2 service will not function properly.
Laserfiche 6 client programs
Laserfiche 6 client programs use port 1888 for communication with the Laserfiche Server. If there is a firewall between your Laserfiche Server 8 instance and your version 6 Laserfiche client program, please make sure that port 1888 is open on your firewall.
