Laserfiche Server - Team (MSDE) 8, Laserfiche Server - United (MS SQL) 8, Laserfiche Server - United (Oracle) 8, Quick Fields 7, Laserfiche 9

Summary

The default Windows DCOM security restrictions affect the ability of Laserfiche Server 8 to communicate with legacy (version 7) Laserfiche client programs, e.g. Quick Fields 7. In order to enable communication with legacy clients, you will need to modify the default DCOM configuration.

A utility that automatically configures your DCOM settings and disables the Windows firewall is included in the "Server" folder on Laserfiche 8 installation DVD. You may choose to take advantage of this utility by double-clicking the "FW_DCOM.exe" file from the installation DVD. The utility is also available as an option during the Laserfiche Server installation.

Note: Laserfiche Server 8.1.x includes an updated version of the utility that supports Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008. The version of the utility included with Laserfiche Server 8.0.x, does not handle Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008.

If you choose to not take advantage of this utility, then you will need to manually configure your DCOM settings.
