A "The Standalone Engine Could Not Initialize or Connect to the new Laserfiche Repository." Error Occurs When Publishing.

Summary

When you use Plus Publisher to publish a repository, you may receive the following error message:

The Standalone Engine Could Not Initialize or Connect to the new Laserfiche Repository.

(Maximum Standalone Connections exceeded. If you are not publishing from a Standalone repository, be sure that the Standalone Engine is not running before you restart Plus. [6527])

Cause

This issue can occur when you have the following programs installed on the same computer:

  • A non-standalone edition of the Laserfiche client
  • Laserfiche Plus
  • Laserfiche Administration Console

During the publishing process, Laserfiche Plus loads a version of the Laserfiche Server engine in order to create the new published repository. When you load the Laserfiche Administration Console, it also automatically loads the server engine installed by Plus. When you open an instance of the Laserfiche Administration Console before you attempt to publish a plus repository, it loads the standalone server engine and Plus Publisher will be unable to create an instance of the engine.

Resolution

Before you publish a repository, use Windows Task Manager to make sure that an instance of the standalone engine (LFEng.exe) is not already running.

To manually stop an instance of LFEng.exe.

  1. Right-click the Windows Taskbar and select Task Manager.
  2. Click the Processes tab.
  3. Scroll down and select "LFEng.exe."
  4. Click the End Process button.
