An "Unknown error. [6000]" Error Occurs When Importing if the Default Volume or Default Template Specified for New Documents is Invalid.

August 6, 2014 | KB: 1011629
Laserfiche 7.1, Laserfiche 7.2

Summary

When you import a new document, the Import to Laserfiche dialog box may return the following error message.

    Invalid pointer

    Unknown error. [6000]

Cause

This error can occur if you delete the "Default" volume or "General" template and no default volume or template was ever explicitly specified through the New Document Options dialog box.

This error can also occur if the default values are set to a volume or template that has been deleted.

Workaround

Use the Laserfiche client to specify a valid default volume and template for new documents.

To set a default volume and template for new documents

  1. From the Tools menu, select Options.
  2. Double-click the New Documents option.
  3. In the New Document Options dialog, specify a default template and volume in the Document template and Import to volume options, respectively.
  4. Click OK to save your changes.

Resolution 1

This issue is resolved in Laserfiche client 7.2.1. Please upgrade to the latest version of the Laserfiche client.

Resolution 2

There is also a hotfix available for Laserfiche client 7.2. The fix is an updated version of LFDocInterfaces72.dll (version 7.2.0.3). If an invalid value is specified for the default import volume or template, the dialog box will switch to the first valid volume or template.

  3. Register the new file
    1. Click Start and then click Run.
    2. Type the following and then click OK to register the file:

      regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Laserfiche\Controls\LFDocInterfaces72.dll"
