Sending a Document to Laserfiche from PowerPoint May Crash PowerPoint If The Document Had Text Extracted Using an IFilter

July 27, 2006 | KB: 1011244
Laserfiche 7.2

Summary

After using "Send to Laserfiche" to send documents to your repository from Microsoft PowerPoint, PowerPoint may crash when you attempt to close it. This will only occur if you are using an IFilter to extract text from the document.

Resolution

The crash only occurs if the text extraction process is performed while PowerPoint is still open. To avoid the crash, send the document to Laserfiche without extracting text, and then perform the text extraction process once the document is in your repository.

Additionally, the crash only occurs if the text extraction process is performed using IFilters. By default, the Laserfiche Client will not perform text extraction on PowerPoint files using an IFilter; instead, it will use Laserfiche Text Extraction. If you have configured your text extraction process to use IFilters rather than Laserfiche Text Extraction to extract text from PowerPoint documents, you can avoid this crash by changing your text extraction settings back to the default.
