An "Access is Denied" Error Occurs When Trying to Load Web Access.

March 6, 2006 | KB: 1011134
Web Access 7

Summary

When you load the Web Access website, you may receive the following error message:

    Access is Denied

Cause

The Windows user account being used to authenticate to IIS does not have sufficient permissions to access the Web Access installation folder.

Resolution

If the Web Access virtual directory is configured for anonymous access, make sure that the specified Windows user account is able to access the Web Access ASPs folder. If the Web Access virtual directory is configured for Windows authentication, make sure that all necessary Windows user accounts can access the Web Access ASPs folder.

To check what Windows user account is used for anonymous access

  1. Load the IIS MMC snap-in. It can be opened from Administrative Tools in the Control Panel.
  2. Select the Web Access virtual directory. By default, Web Access creates the Laserfiche virtual directory.
  3. From the Action menu, click Properties.
  4. In the Properties dialog box, select the Directory Security tab.
  5. Under Anonymous access and authentication control, click Edit.
  6. In the Authentication Methods dialog box, take note of the Windows user account specified under Account used for anonymous access.

Make sure that the Windows user account being used for anonymous access has at least Read permissions to the Web Access installation folder.
