Moving a Document By Drag/Drop Can Result in Slow Performance.

March 8, 2006 | KB: 1011130
Laserfiche 7

Summary

You may encounter slow performance when moving documents by dragging and dropping the documents. However, when moving documents by cutting and pasting, there is no performance hit.

Cause

After you drag/drop a document, the Laserfiche client will refresh the contents of the source folder and attempt to reselect the original document. However, since the document has been moved, the client cannot locate the original document in the folder. The Laserfiche client will spend time searching the folder for the now-moved document. This action can result in a long wait time if the folder contains a large number of entries.

Resolution 1

This issue is resolved in Laserfiche 7.2. Please upgrade to the latest version of Laserfiche.

Resolution 2

There is a hotfix available for Laserfiche client 7.1.2. The fix is an updated version of LF.exe (version 7.1.2.600). After you move a document by dragging and dropping to another folder, the Laserfiche client no longer attempts to reselect the moved document.

To update Laserfiche client 7.1.2

  1. Close any open instances of the Laserfiche client.
  2. Click the following link to download a zip file containing an updated version of LF.exe.
    Hotfix_SCR24482.zip
  3. Replace the existing LF.exe located in the Laserfiche client installation folder with the version included in the zip file. By default, Laserfiche client is installed at C:\Program Files\Laserfiche\Client.
