Laserfiche 7

Summary

This article describes the security configuration required to allow a Laserfiche user to scan.

More Information

In order to scan documents and store them in a Laserfiche repository, a Laserfiche user must have certain security settings. A typical scanner operator may have feature rights and access rights similar to the following set of rights:

Feature Rights Function
  • Scan
  • Process
The user who will be scanning must have the Scan right. In Laserfiche Server 7.0.x, the user must have the Process right if they wish newly scanned documents to be immediately indexed upon being sent to Laserfiche. In Laserfiche Server 7.1.x, if the Laserfiche Server is configured to always index new documents, the Process right is not needed. However, if that option is not enabled, then the user must have the Process right in order for newly scanned documents to be indexed upon being sent to Laserfiche.
Entry Access Rights Function
  • Browse
  • Read
  • Create Documents
  • Create Folders
  • Append Data
  • Write Metadata
Users must be able to browse to and view the contents of the folder they wish to scan into. If they are scanning into an existing document, they must also be able to browse to and view that document. If they are scanning into a new document, they must have the Create Documents right. If they are creating a new folder, they must have the Create Folders right. If they are scanning into an existing document, they must have the Append Data right. If they are scanning into an existing document, they must have the Write Metadata right to modify field values.
Volume Access Rights Function
  • Read
  • Append Data
  • Create Documents
Users must have the Append Data right in order to scan pages into a document. Users must have the Create Documents right if they are creating and scanning into a new document.
Field Access Rights Function
  • Create
  • Edit
No field access rights are necessary if the scanner operator does not need to set any field values. If the user does need to set field values, then the user must have the Create right on fields that are set when creating a new document and the Edit right for any fields that will be modified when scanning into an existing document.
