Manually Configuring Repository Connection Information

Summary

This article describes the process for manually configuring repository connection information for a Laserfiche repository.

Note: Under normal circumstances, the Laserfiche Server and the Laserfiche client will automatically communicate repository connection information, and therefore the information will not need to be manually configured. You should only use these procedures if automatic reception of repository broadcasts have been disabled, or are otherwise not functioning.

More Information

By default, the Laserfiche Server broadcasts information about registered repositories, and the Laserfiche client receives that information and uses it to connect to the repositories. However, if automatic reception of repository broadcasts has been disabled for a particular client workstation, you will need to manually configure the connection information.

To manually configure repository connection information for the Laserfiche client 6

  1. Open the Laserfiche client.
  2. Click New.
  3. Select Attach from the list.
  4. Click OK.
  5. Under Database Name, type the name of your database.
  6. Under IP Address, type the name or IP address of your server, followed by a colon, followed by the port number.
  7. Click OK.

Note: The repository name, server, and port specified in steps 5 and 6 above are stored in the [IPDatabase] section of the lf.ini file. By default, this file is located at C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\Application Data\LF, where UserName is the name of the Windows user who was logged in when the repository was attached.

To manually configure repository connection information for the Laserfiche client 7

  1. Open the Laserfiche client.
  2. Click Attach.
  3. Select Network Repository.
  4. In the Network Repository option, type the name of the computer on which the Laserfiche Server is located, or select it from the list.
  5. In the Repository Name option, type the name of your Laserfiche repository, or select it from the list.
  6. Click Attach.

Note: The repository name, server and port specified in steps 4 and 5 above are stored in the registry at: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Laserfiche\Client\Profile\IPDatabase.
