Summary

In most cases, briefcases should be imported into Laserfiche using the Import command on the File menu. In some cases, however, you may need to attach a briefcase to a repository as you would a volume. This article describes the process of attaching a briefcase as a volume.

Note: This procedure is a troubleshooting tool and should not be performed during standard usage of Laserfiche.

More Information

You can attach a briefcase to a repository as a volume by using the Laserfiche Administration Console.

To attach a briefcase as a volume

  1. Select the briefcase you wish to attach.
  2. From the File menu, select Rename.
  3. Rename the file such that the extension is changed from .lfb to .zip.
  4. Extract the files.
  5. Open Windows Explorer and navigate to the location to which you extracted the files.
  6. In the topmost directory, which contains the LFVol.xml file, open the File menu and select New. Create a new text document.
  7. Name the new file volume.id.

Note: If you have Windows Explorer set to hide extensions for known file types, you will need to ensure that you have named the file volume.id rather than volume.id.txt.

  8. Open the Laserfiche Administration Console.
  9. Expand the server.
  10. Expand Repositories.
  11. Expand the repository to which you wish to attach the briefcase.
  12. Select Volumes.
  13. From the Action menu, select All Tasks and then Attach Volume.
  14. In the Path to volume box of the Attach Volume dialog, input the location of the extracted files. Select whether you want to specify this as a fixed or removable path, or copy data out of this path into a new directory.
  15. Set your preferences under Template merging, Folder structure and Indexing.
  16. Click OK.
  17. In the next Attach Volume dialog box, input the name you wish the new volume to have, and set your Access preferences.
  18. Click OK.
  19. The newly attached volume will show up under your Volumes list.
