Summary

When importing a Laserfiche briefcase file into a repository, you may encounter the following error message:

Failed to import new document - Decompression failed [7434].

Cause

The briefcase import may be unsuccessful due to one of the following causes:

  • The data contained in a briefcase is archived and compressed as a zip (version 7.1.x and earlier) or tar-gzip (version 7.2) file which maintains the folder structure of the exported contents. Occasionally, a briefcase can become corrupt, and cannot be extracted properly, causing this error.
  • You may be using Laserfiche client 7.0.x or 7.1.x to import a Laserfiche 7.2 briefcase. Laserfiche 7.2 uses a different format to create briefcases. Due to the change, older versions of the Laserfiche client will be unable to properly import Laserfiche 7.2 briefcases.

Note: You can still export briefcases from a Laserfiche Server 7.2 repository using Laserfiche client 7.0.x or 7.1.x. The exported briefcase will be in zip format and can be imported as normal by Laserfiche clients 7.0.x and 7.1.x.

Workaround

To determine whether the briefcase has become corrupted, do the following:

  1. Rename the file extension for the briefcase file. Perform one of the following:
    • If the briefcase was created with Laserfiche client 7.0.x or 7.1.x, change the extension from .lfb to .zip.
    • If the briefcase was created with Laserfiche client 7.2, change the extension from .lfb to .tar.gz.
  2. Extract the zip or tar-gzip file.

If the archive file cannot be successfully extracted, the briefcase may be corrupted. In this case, you will need to create a new briefcase by re-exporting the briefcase from Laserfiche.

If the archive file can be successfully extracted, you can manually attach the briefcase as a new volume. Please see the followng Knowledge Base article:
