Summary

The LaserFiche Client\Standalone (version 6.1x) installation does not include the Expervision OCR engine. The LaserFiche Client\Standalone (version 6.1) introduced a new OCR engine called I.R.I.S. DRS 8.0. The I.R.I.S. OCR engine replaces the Expervision OCR engine that shipped with the LaserFiche Client\Standalone (version 6.0 - 6.04). This article explains how you may configure the LaserFiche Client\Standalone to use the Expervision OCR engine.

Note: The following procedure assumes that you have the LaserFiche Client\Standalone (version 6.0 - 6.04) installation CD or that you already have it installed. If you do not have a qualifying version of the LaserFiche Client\Standalone, then you will not be able to perform this procedure.

In order to use the Expervision OCR engine with the LaserFiche Client\Standalone (version 6.1x), you will need to upgrade from version 6.0x. After upgrading the LaserFiche Client\Standalone, you will have both OCR engines at your disposal. You can configure the LaserFiche Client\Standalone to use the OCR engine of your choice. The following instructions step you through both of these procedures.

To prepare the LaserFiche Client\Standalone to use the Expervision OCR engine:

1. Perform one of the following:
   • If you currently have LaserFiche Client\Standalone (version 6.0x) installed, then you should proceed to step 2.
   • If you currently have LaserFiche Client\Standalone (version 6.1x) installed, then you should uninstall it now. You should then proceed to install the LaserFiche Client\Standalone version 6.0x (preferably 6.04).
   • If you do not have the LaserFiche Client\Standalone installed, you should install the LaserFiche Client\Standalone version 6.0x (preferably 6.04).
2. Upgrade the LaserFiche Client\Standalone to version 6.1 or higher. This can be performed by simply running the LaserFiche Client\Standalone (version 6.1x) installation. The installation will automatically detect that the LaserFiche Client\Standalone has already been installed and it will allow you to update your existing installation.
3. After upgrading the LaserFiche Client\Standalone, you should make sure that it has been configured to use the Expervision OCR engine. This can be performed through the procedure explained below.

To change the current OCR engine:

1. Load the LaserFiche Client\Standalone.
2. From the Tools menu, select Options.
3. Double-click on the OCR icon.
4. From the Optical Character Recognition dialog box, select the desired engine from the OCR engine option.
5. Click OK.
6. Click Close. All future OCR jobs will be performed using the selected OCR engine.
