Lower Image Quality Upon Importing Color/Grayscale Images into Laserfiche.

Laserfiche 6, Laserfiche 7, Plus 6, Plus 7

Summary

Color/grayscale images may appear slightly distorted after being imported into a Laserfiche repository.

Cause

This is a result of the default level of compression used when importing color/grayscale images. Please see Workaround 1 or Workaround 2 depending on your version of Laserfiche.

Workaround 1

If you are using version 7.2 or later of a Laserfiche client, you can edit the registry to control the level of compression to use when importing color/grayscale images.

Add a "JPEGCompression" string value under the "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Laserfiche\Client\Profile\Settings" registry key.

To modify the registry

  1. Click Start and then click Run to load the Run dialog box.
  2. Type the following and click OK to load the Windows Registry editor.
  3. Expand HKEY_CURRENT_USER.
  4. Expand Software.
  5. Expand Laserfiche.
  6. Expand Client.
  7. Expand Profile.
  8. Select Settings.
  9. From the Edit menu, point to New, and select String Value.
  10. Name the new string value:

    JPEGCompression

  11. Set the value to a number between 1 and 100.

The JPEGCompression value controls how much file compression Laserfiche will use for color/grayscale images. A value of 1 uses maximum size compression, and so creates an image with the lowest quality. A value of 100 uses no size compression and creates an image with the highest quality.

Note: This setting affects all client applications on the same computer that use Document Processor.

Workaround 2

If you are using Laserfiche 6 and you prefer better image quality as opposed to using less disk space, then you should add the following line to the [Options] section of your LF.INI:

  • JPGCompression=100

The entry JPGCompression should be a number from 1 to 100, where 1 uses the least amount of disk space and 100 is the best image quality.
