An "Open/create link failed [7816]" Error Occurs When Logging In To a Repository.

December 9, 2005 | KB: 1001108
Laserfiche 7

Summary

When you try to log in to a repository, you may receive the following error message:

    Open/create link failed [7816]

The repository had been previously registered as a local repository, but has since been converted to a network repository. The repository may still be registered as both a local repository and as a network repository on the client computer. Because the repository is listed in the registry location for local repositories, the Laserfiche client will first attempt to load up in standalone mode. However, errors will occur if the current client installation does not actually have a version of the standalone engine present.

Resolution

Remove the registry key under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Laserfiche\Engine\7.x\Standalone Databases that was created when the local repository was registered.

To remove a registered local repository from the registry

  1. Click Start and then click Run.
  2. In the Run dialog box, type the following and then click OK to load the Windows Registry Editor.

    regedt32

  3. Expand HKEY_CURRENT_USER.
  4. Expand Software.
  5. Expand Laserfiche.
  6. Expand Engine.
  7. Expand 7.x.
  8. Expand Standalone Databases.
  9. Click the registry key that corresponds to the name of the local repository.
  10. From the Edit menu, click Delete.
