A "Unable to retrieve a list of databases." Error Occurs When Creating or Migrating a Repository on Microsoft SQL Server 2005.

Summary

The Repository Creation wizard and the Laserfiche 6 to 7 Migration wizard cannot automatically retrieve a list of the available Microsoft SQL Server 2005 databases. The error can occur when you click on the Databases option or the Refresh option on the steps where you are asked to specify a SQL database. If you are using Laserfiche 7.1.2, you may receive the following error message:

    Unable to retrieve list of databases. If the target database is Microsoft SQL Server 2005, database listing is not currently supported. Please ensure that your login information is correct and enter the database name manually.

If you are using a version of Laserfiche prior to 7.1.2, you may receive the following error message:

    Unable to retrieve a list of databases.

Cause

The Repository Creation wizard and the Laserfiche 6 to 7 Migration wizard do not yet use the version of SQL-DMO included with Microsoft SQL Server 2005.

Resolution

This issue is resolved in Laserfiche 7.2.

Workaround

Manually type the name of the desired SQL database.
