Minimum Windows Rights Needed to View a Plus Published Repository.

Plus 5,Plus 6,Plus 7

Summary

The first time a Plus CD is viewed on a computer, the database engine must be installed. Plus 5 installs Pervasive while Plus 6 and Plus 7 install MSDE. This requires that the initial user have administrative rights to that computer. Once the database engine is installed on the computer, subsequent users who use that computer to view a Plus CD can be restricted users with limited access rights.

Note: Be aware that Laserfiche Plus 7.0.x contains a known issue where users were required to be Windows administrators in order to view a published repository even after MSDE was installed. This is resolved for repositories published using Laserfiche Plus 7.1.

There is a workaround for Plus 5 that removes the need for the initial user to have administrative rights in order to install Pervasive. See the following workaround.

Workaround

Configure the Plus 5 installation to grant non-administrators the ability to install Pervasive.

To configure Plus 5

  1. Copy the psvcs.dll file from the PVSW\Bin folder to C:\Program Files\Laserfiche\LFW folder on the computer that publishes Plus CDs.
  2. Using a text editor, open the cdview.txt file found in C:\Program Files\Laserfiche\LFW and add psvcs.dll to the list.
  3. Republish the repository.

Note: A restricted user that installs Pervasive may encounter a non-fatal error. This error does not affect the Pervasive installation.
